Depends on what you mean by a country. If you're talking about a European-style nation-state, that's accurate. Those didn't really begin to exist in Europe until the sixteenth century, as a result of consolidation of power by monarchs while the feudal nobility were away crusading. The centralization was aided by the bubonic plague and advances in cartography and mapping technology. Before then, the norms were de-centralized feudal kingdoms (essentially loose confederations of principalities, baronies, dukedoms, etc.) and sprawling, loosely controlled polyglot empires like the Holy Roman Empire which were more of the same. Did they fight a lot with each other? Think Hundred Years War. And they brought the wars with them. In North America the wars between England and France sucked in Native Americans on both sides. In the Americas, there were some impressive indigenous empires South of the border (Aztec, Inca, etc.), as well as the Mayan city-states. In North America, not so much, since they didn't make much sense there. But in the Pacific Northwest, Southwest, and the woodlands of the North East and North West there were settled communities with complex political organization. When DeSoto did his exploring, he ran into the powerful Quigualtam chiefdom, which was subsequently decimated by the diseases he brought along. A powerful remnant, the Natchez, maintained a complex chiefdom in the Lower Mississippi Valley until they were defeated in a war with France. In Virginia, there was the Powhatan confederation of Pocahontas fame, and in the northeastern woodlands south of the Great Lakes, the six nation Iroquois confederation held sway, opposed by the Wabanaki confederacy of several Algonquin nations in New England , and Canada, claiming a homeland from Newfoundland, Canada to New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Did these peoples have a concept of territoriality? You bet they did. It seems to be ingrained in human psyche. The territories were not quite as formalized and institutionalized as European states, but they were established by mutual agreement or conquest, and (like Europe) defended in battle.Natural land formations and waterways served as markers. In North America, they were much smaller than the European countries, for one thing, because they had no horses and needed to claim units they could effectively control. The important point was that, contrary to European mythology, they did indeed resent intrusions onto their sacred lands, which is one reason they tended to attack the intruders. Europeans get confused between tribal territoriality and the traditional Native American concept of communal ownership of land. Yes, we didn't have the same notion of individual property rights Europeans had, but we had a similar concept of tribal territoriality.
well, we are still waiting for the 'rats to bring their dead cat to the senate. they've been dragging this dead animal around forever now it seems. not much left of it but the collar. still no proof, no witness, nothing they can produce that makes a concrete claim that the Donald did something wrong. they seem to imagine they can have a dream about something , then wake up and find out it's true. while all this is going on, sleepy Joe and Hunter Biden still need to be investigated for oh I don't know lets make something up like, extorting Ukraine to fire a prosecutor "or your not getting the money" for investigating a gas company , of which Hunter was a part of, and raking in LOTS of money for doing basically nothing . can't help it if the Biden's were in the middle of it ( they just happened to be doing this while the Ukraine prosecutor was looking in to this.) trouble is we got sleepy Joe on video bragging about it, so it must be true. incriminated by the cereal hole in his face. sending money to a country without knowing what they are going to do with it is dangerous, might as well pile it up on the lawn and set it on fire.
It seems really delusional to imagine that it's no big deal and that it's all going to go away. The only thing now is the lack of conviction in the republican led Senate. It only - I repeat only because it doesn't mean innocence - shows a partisan divide in politics. And in my opinion they (the senators) are behaving this way because the electorate (you guys) will not re-elect them if they don't! You want your "narrative" to be in the spotlight so bad that you're willing to do anything to get it there. Even lie and cheat. So that there will be discussion of hounding the immigrant class...! So that there will be a trade war...! So that there is discussion of who is paying how much in international politics...! And no matter who it offends in the process. Be it the millions of immigrants, the Chinese, or every NATO member country - our allies. You will turn a blind eye to anything to hear yourself talk via the White House media correspondence. And to the determent of everything we stand for! Just to get a racist lick in... I'm sick and tired of it, and I'm not alone!
conviction for what ? do you have any proof ? any witnesses ? anything solid ? guess not , or it would have been brought out by now. and who is racist?
What do you mean guess not?! A dozen people testified that he did! And now some email?! It was sent about hushing things up... bologna!
so you claim some guy down the block stole your bike. you call the police, they say did you see him do it? how do you know he's the one? did someone tell you he stole your bike? well we cant do anything for you if you have no proof. and no witness . are you sure you even had a bike?
all these "witnesses were asked by congress if they had seen, heard, or been a part of anything. ALL said no.....
That's not exactly true, is it! No, they were asked things like "were you the initial person who intercepted this information?" or stuff like that. Then they said no, but they were privy to that information! It happened bro. I'm sorry to tell you. The trial though will not be cool. He won't be removed.
Are you even taking this seriously? Num nums... Ok. So you're saying there was no pause, but the media reports one. Who do I believe? I believe the media who has reported dozens of times that the hold up did occur. And the OMB or whatever it's called is substantiating that! What don't you understand??? It's as if your purpose isn't to communicate. It's only to trip up our communication and make people second guess a lot... I don't play that!
and you are right , Trump won't be removed, and he will be in office 4 more years. and he will be your president cause we all got a chance to vote, and he won
You don't get to say the way it works though do you! The proof is in the pudding... What I mean is they're not making it up. When somebody is vetted for a position like that, AND the president does nothing but lie...You have it's his word against theirs. Who do you believe? And that email isn't lying!
well... the email! It's about office of budget management or whatever it's called conveying the magnitude of this phone conversation and the importance of keeping it quiet. Is that not an implication that something is awry? I think it is.
