To get the real bang for your buck...

    http://charitywatch.org/hottopics/tsunami_asia.html
The American Institute of Philanthropy's top-rated list of charities
currently offering relief services to the victims of the earthquake and
tsunami that has devastated parts of Southeast Asia.

AIP conducts intensive ratings of national and international relief
agencies, and gives them a grade. The organizations listed on the above web
page are rated from B to A+ in efficiency. They all have web sites where you
    can donate. Take your pick.

Another reminder that the canadian govt is matching donations made by Canadians to non-gov organizations. :D Double your donation, donate Canadian.

I finally made it to the red cross office today to donate, and they had run out of reciepts here, and in a large city nearby. it's so nice to know that people are giving in such big numbers!

I just hope that the bottlenecks of supplies that i keep reading about in the news are resolved quickly. It's not going to do the survivors any good if clean water, food, and medicine are stopped hundred of miles away from where they're needed.

    I'm not sure.

    this is what they're saying:
i'm not exactly sure how they'd track where the donations are coming from when there are SO many people donating.

you know i was feeling this way last night...i had a good time with my friends but i was watching the ball drop and i was thinking about how everyone around the world was celebrating while those countries and people were still mourning...i know you have to continue to live, but i think things like this make you question how you live....and holding our children is one of the best ways to live.

I agree. With all children having come to live with me recently I am getting my share of hugs and holding and it is great.

    Peace, TD-

I just had to reply to this as it is not true of everywhere. My friends are from Sri Lanka and their temple here in Aus and other organisations such as the the Tamil association have got containers and are filling them with food, sheets and non perishable goods to go to people in the north of Sri Lanka, they will be distributed by people who have been here and understand where and who the AID is to go to. There is also a need for AID that is not immediate so maybe if you have a similar organisation in your area they might need some contributions in order to help with a slightly more long term need. These are people who all move between both countries constantly and so they are able to guarantee that what you send will end up with someone who needs it. The people who need this AID are not only those caught in the immediate tsunami but also those who will find themselve economically affected in those countries.

Tis my first time to post here but have been reading with interest many threads here and find you all very interesting and full of goodness.
    :)

and the dolphin who was just saved in Thailand...they are still looking for her calf and as they are milk fed I am feeling a bit depressed about the "saving" of this dolphin and her baby.....

obviously like many people some animals were otherwise occupied...since we don't know all the dead humans as yet why are people presuming to know the wildlife toll?

What news were you watching? As I saw it they were eager to show any video of the tsunami they could get ahold of. Of course we only saw videos taken by tourists, not many Indonesian fishermen own camcorders. And the death toll was rising by the hour, so how could they be lying about it? I saw footage of villagers being piled into mass graves, aerial footage of villages that were wiped off the face of the Earth, and nonstop pleas for donations so the survivors could get food and water. Bush wasn't going to do a hell of a lot at first, but that doesn't mean there was a huge conspiracy backing him up.

well god damn i was hoping that was the case else there is no excuse why it took so fucking long for the people of the united states to go and form a proper relief effort...(i don't watch tv often...except the week that this first happened...and the last i saw the death toll was like 25,000...then i saw a while later on a "liberal" website that the death toll was 250,000...so i jumped to conclusions)

thanks fer settin me straight newo...
