I believe that U.N. officials should deal with this one, only after there are never any more wars.

That's their reason for existing as in their charter.
there's no mention of drugs in their charter.

So, U.N. do your one and only job. Total world peace.

    States Rights.
Humans have the unalianable right the drink water, consume food, and to consume anything else that they chose to consume. It's called FREEDOM.

And it can never be against the law.

    Man...

i just want to thank you all ...

I mean I really just want to thank you all....

Most of you are highly intellectual and I learn more than I could ever learn watching the newz or reading fake newspaperz....

I am working on a masterz degree and if you all do not have one You Alll should be awarded one just for your intellectual capabilitiez...

And the funny thing iz that you are smarter than manythat do not smoke...
I believe that the world iz afraid of the fact that people will understand their giftz and capabilitiez if their have a full and open mind which marijuana would help deliver ... "because it is a plant therefore can be part of a diet or medicine." It iz not chemically made or added with artificial flavorz...

What haz really gotten old and waste of time iz micro managing... Other people are far to into the detail of other peoplez life... it helpz them ignore their failing life... I have realized that most people run away from their life because it suckz they go to a job and "live their job"; and make other peoplez life horrible because then they do not have to pay attention to their horrible excuse for a life...

Thankz again folkz and keep up the good work...

Alcohol is good for the economy. Car wrecks=business for cops, towing companies, body shops, junk yards, hospitals, doctors, pharmacists.

Drunk and disorderly=good for cops, judges, jails, probation departments.

Drunk and divorces=usual suspects ,but add lawyers.

Etc,Etc=it's a perfect drug for those who don't wish to change their way of approaching their world and usually don't even suspect that such can be done.

Moderation's the key for alcohol. Took me awhile to know that--ONE hit of windowpane did it for me. (never mind the several dozen after that one--another bunch 'o stories)

Oh yeah--forgot to mention weed---fuck 'em. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

I don't think that they should listen to him but the guy is right. The US signed a treaty and we are bound to it. It's a pressure for the federal government to make up its damned mind about the whole pot thing already. Either declare war on Colorado or withdraw from the treaty.

I don't think it is a question of what the federal government wants to do, I think it is about the people telling the federal government what it will do. The UN needs to butt out of our business. What treaty are you referring to, by the way?

Well, then the obvious solution is to withdraw from that treaty. Treaties have done nothing to stop the drug trades anyway, so there is really no reason to continue the charade that it works.

I'm not surprised the (para) global government agency is pissed off about the most influential nation in the world doing this.

It was only a matter of time before they expressed anger.

It's only a matter of time before they try forceful measures.

I highly disagree, since the UN is basically the US and its weaker allies.

States have the right to set their own laws. This is why there are still "dry" areas in the USA where alcohol is not sold, and why some areas of Alaska still declare alcohol illegal despite the end of prohibition decades ago. Yet when it comes to marijuana they deny this right.

This whole idea of one law ruling the land dates back the formation of the FBI, which was only founded to fight prohibition since local police had trouble tracking criminals from state to state.

The problem is drugs are an easy target. It is a topic that is never going away, so every election it can be talked about, and people will always be strongly on one side or the other. The issue can always be presented as having the simple solution of "give the DEA more money, and increase prison terms for offenders". Yet every election American voters seem to forget they did that last election with no results. By distracting the public with easy hot topics like this, discussion of real issues can be avoided.

Shut up about the intrusion of the U.N. That is a backwards complaint. The U.S. is the reason that there are international laws against marijuana. The U.S. exerted diplomatic pressure and used the U.N. to make marijuana illegal by treaty obligation pretty much EVERYWHERE ON EARTH. I think even the Netherlands are bound by treaty to prohibit the use of weed. It would be way too hypocritical to paint this as an instance of U.N. instrusion in U.S. internal affairs. The U.N. is only asking the U.S. to honor the treaty obligation it foisted on the rest of the world.

That said, of course it is ridiculous and marijuana should be legal everywhere. Hopefully the Obama administration will live and let live because this thing needs to keep moving in the right direction.

As has been mentioned, the UN is basically the US. The feds are pissy, and of course, so are their buddies, but the UN has no enforcement power, even if they disagree with the US the US does it, like invading iraq. This is basically like the feds agreeing with themselves.

F**k the UN --they have no teeth over our States nor Pot Laws. Especially where The US's States are voting. It's between the Fed & us. They can talk shit like obey your own laws & blah blah. It's like how much republicans listen to democrats & visa versa. "0". And the States can secede from the Onion & the Garlic if they want to. (No, UN are not basically the US, they have the votes & support of a lot of other countries which is why they are an AKA for The United Nations. And they can get away with going into places & enforcing shit apart from the US. No, the US doesn't have to listen to them & can break treaties as they are not binding. Even Nuke treaties are not which is why sanctions. IF the US was listening to the UN they'd have to have granted the Palestinians Autonomy years ago (Infinite UN Resolutions later) & make Israel share the land...but I digress...) And at the latest 10-day International Tele Conference in UAE with the they are all barking for a chance to have a rotating Nation in charge of The Internet. Whoah! —That is even f**king scarier! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-20594779 (Sir Tim Berners-Lee - inventor of the world wide web - is the latest voice to raise concerns about a meeting of communication tech regulators in Dubai.) Can you imagine Russia or China or Iran or Pakistan or one of those Super-self-righteous Islamist regimes legislating their own form of righteousness over what comes over the WEB? Those countries smoke pot like it's going out of style. I lived in some of them. And opiated hash, too! Good shit!
