According to glassdoor, the average store manager at McDonalds makes $38K.

    My bad.

They can toil through years of bullshit and in the end, be at the top of the pay grade, as high as they can get, whilst working with pissy customers and shitty hours and deep-fat-fryers, and be middle class. But not high middle class, by ANY means.

That's funny. I work at a place where we're required to be nice..seriously they told us a smile is part of our uniform.

Yesterday some lady came through the drive-thru and I take her order. Keep in mind I cannot enter a meal into the computer without knowing what type of cheese they want on a sandwich or how many nuggets or strips they want in a meal. It goes like this:
Me: "thank you for choosing [food company], how can I serve you today?"
    Her: "I want a #1 with a dr pepper.......a #1 with a coke.......a #5"
Me: "would you like 8 or 12 nuggets with that #5?"
    Her: "then I need a #8 with a tea"
    Me: "sweet or unsweet"
    Her: "sweet"
Me: "and on that #5 would you like 8 or 12 nuggets?"
Her: "then I need a #6 3 count with another dr pepper..."
Me: "does that complete your order?"
    Her: "yes"
    Me: "okay I have 2 #1 meals with a dr pepper and a coke, a #8 with a sweet tea, and a #6 3 count with a dr pepper..."
    Her: "and a #5?"
Me: "do you want EIGHT or TWELVE nuggets with the #5?"
    Her: "EIGHT"
    Me: "and WHAT DRINK..."

Stupid little things like that, because we deal with the same shit every single day, piss us fast-food workers off. And it takes us a little bit to cool off from it..so maybe your McDonalds cashier either hates her job, or had a horrible customer before you. :p

    i didnt say that.
but the type of people that work at mcdonalds are not the same type of people that try to improve themselves and/or get a better job/education/skills/etc.

i've heard of some people that work for mcdonalds their entire life.
thats what you call a bottom feeder
unless of course they make it to manager of mcdonalds
then that's what you call a 'successful' bottom feeder

There was one megabitch I used to hate serving, because she would treat servers as if she was a millionaire and you were a maid she didn't like. Then she found out that she knew my husband and was sweet as pie from then on. I hope she knew I told him what a bitch she really was. :)

It definately goes both ways. The epitome of the results of bad customers is at black jack tables in casinos. The new dealers are happy to have a job and seem to have a good time dealing with the players. The ones that have been dealing for a long time are HARD as hell and have seen it all from chips/drinks thrown in their faces to fights and other mischief. You deal with the public long enough, you're going to see human nature at its finest and at its worst.

I never play Blackjack at a table with a bunch of guys my age. There pissy and complain the whole time. I always look for a table with a mix of men and women, its much more lighthearted and fun and the dealers are always good.

The best ones we get are usually the young ones. Best kid we've ever had working for us was hired at the age of 14. but there's just so much they aren't allowed to do before 16 that they changed that rule and won't hire anyone younger than 16 now. And I guess to answer your question, it's probably 50-50 between can't and don't. Some people get the "too good for this place" attitude right off the bat, and we push them out really quick. Dammit, we deal with that abuse enough from the customers, we're not going to have that attitude amongst us.

I actually work in customer service and really do go out of my way to help the customers and be friendly - even if they don't deserve it.

I have similar expectations when I am a customer myself. It's really not that hard to be friendly. However, I wouldn't make a complain about someone just because they weren't friendly. Rude, lazy or fucking up and not saying sorry? Definitely will complain.

Haven't had bad service at McDonalds (although I haven't been there in forever anyway), but I NEVER go to Subway now because the customer service is so despicable.
