Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I'd rather take action, personally.
The Man is going to bend us all over eventually, either way.

They definitely are not. I have been following them since almost the beginning, a little bit before they took down mastercard and paypal in support of wikileaks. Back then they were just a bunch of angry people gathering on 4chan to help wikileaks and they have continued to grow from that.

My husband noticed quite a few sites that are down with error messages saying things along the lines of "this option/site isn't available in your country."

Yeah, I heard there are about 2 dozen p2p sites that have been shut down or have stopped operations in the US. Curiously, the Pirate Bay wasn't on the list... Makes me wonder if it's being used as bait.
But I also heard that China has refused to allow the US to close down sites hosted within its borders.

A lot of internet lockers are shutting down. and Scorpio the top dogs who owned mega-upload were arrested. Seems many sites are getting scared into shutting down, what can be said about the American government when they can make sites like filesonic shut down from fear? PIPA,SOPA,ACTA.. were fucked whether they pass or not

Anonymous came to this forum way before the attack on Wikileaks. They were here when their site "Why We Protest" went down. That was back when their only protest was against Scientology. At the time they weren't ready to do political actions.

So I was surprised when they backed Wikileaks with a number of actions, and their fame spread around the world. But I was glad to see that they were expanding from the limited attacks on Scientology and broadening their base of activists by expanding their targets to include other violations of Free Speech.

Anonymous is a force to be reckoned with now. It is the Vox Populi (Voice of the People), the online version of Occupy's people's megaphone - with a bullet!

No doubt the shutdown of Megaupload will lead to a response from Anonymous... This is exactly the kind of denial of Free Speech that so incites them. Get ready!

Funny thing is I was told, when Anonymous was on the Hip Forums that there were "former" gov't agents associated with Anonymous, supposedly people who were fucked over by Scientology, who wanted to bring the church down. Whether that is true or not is anyone's guess. I would think that there were at least a few active agents monitoring Anonymous at that point, but I'm sure it was nowhere near the size of the current operation the gov't has monitoring them now.

One thing is for sure. Anonymous has grown way beyond the ability of any one agency to control. And when it comes to the Gov't conducting undercover operations, control is essential. And I doubt the CIA would go around targeting US bizes, bringing down their websites. If the sole purpose were to reveal the hackers involved in Anonymous, why all the publicity that encourages even more people to become political hackers?

I just think its interesting that when the US govt took that first round of sites down last year,WIKILEAKS WASNT TOUCHED!! -- If that site WAS LEGIT and spilling info the govt didnt want out,IT WOULD BE THE FIRST TO GO and also it wouldnt be mentioned in MAINSTREAM NEWSPAPERS!!

What better way for the GOVT to release this info to the public W/O ACTUALLY "ADMITTING" IT THEMSELVES??

    Think about it Skip :)

    ^MegaBox?

I've never used these kinds of things, so I don't know if this link makes any sense to anyone, or if it's even true. I just found it today and brought it here for you to check out.

Too me, all of the shit that's going on these days is a bad dream that I wish to wake up from.

I would...Kim Dotcom, (owner of Mega-upload) has been a fraud and convicted criminal long before this. I wouldn't believe a word he says.
    from wiki;
    Early career
As a teenager, Dotcom earned a reputation in his native Germany for cracking corporate PBX systems in the United States, and tried to parlay it into a career in data security. That effort led to his arrest on charges of using and selling stolen calling card numbers.
In 1998, Dotcom was sentenced to a probationary sentence of two years for computer fraud and handling stolen goods. According to a report by News & Record, he had traded stolen calling card numbers he bought from hackers in the United States. He achieved early notoriety by being the subject of an advanced-for-its-time flash animation video called Kimble Special Agent The name is a reference to Richard Kimble, the main character of the television series The Fugitive....

    Insider trading and embezzlement

In 2001, Dotcom purchased $375,000 worth of shares of the nearly bankrupt company LetsBuyIt.com and subsequently announced his intention to invest €50 million in the company. Unknown to others, Dotcom did not have the funds available to invest, although the announcement caused the share value of LetsBuyIt.com to jump by nearly 300%. Dotcom quickly sold the shares and profited $1.5 million as a result.
Dotcom had also arranged and obtained an unsecured loan of €280,000 from Monkey AG, a company for which Dotcom had served as Chairman of the Board. The funds were to be paid to Kimvestor AG. As a result, both Monkey and Kimvestor went bankrupt. Dotcom expressed remorse, stating that he had been "dazzled" and had not recognized that he would be unable to repay the loans.
In January 2002, Dotcom was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, deported to Germany, and sentenced to a probationary sentence of one year and eight months, and a €100,000 fine, the largest insider-trading case in Germany at the time. Dotcom also pleaded guilty to embezzlement in November 2003 and received a two-year probation sentence.
