In fact, Israel had done just the opposite. They have invited Egyptian troops into the Sinai, which abrogates their peace treaty. And yesterday Egypt moved 900 soldiers to reinforce their border and to stop Hamas and Bedouin militiamen from overrunning the US/Canadian base there, which is currently being attacked by them. The US and Canadians cannot leave their base they are hemmed in...

But you don't see that in the MSM right now, do ya?

Why did the Israelis invite Egyptians to deal with this, and not the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces)?

Cause the Israelis are no longer capable of desert combat! They haven't needed to defend their southern border since the peace treaty with Egypt in 1973. They don't have the equipment or the training for desert combat (at least on a big scale). However the Egyptians are trained and equipped for just that. The Israelis have been completely caught off-guard by this Hamas maneuver.

Not even after all the shooting practise they've had defending themselves from palestinian kids throwing stones at them?

Call me a pessimist, but I think the best part of Egypt's revolution is over. It would be awesome if they went the democracy route, but shiiiiit...

I'm not sure how many Egyptians favor a religious state. But I look at it like this: A certain party doesn't need a majority vote to take power, just a tireless, outspoken, charismatic minority. Especially if the latter appeals to the less rational, more nationalistic (and theocratic) natures of the nation's people.

But it would be nice if the new Egyptian government had a nice relationship with Israel. Yes I know Israel has its faults. But it's tiresome to hear a bunch of cavemen clanging on their AKs talking about wiping out Jews. (Soooo last century.)

It would also be nice if Egyptians embraced a party in favor of social justice and reasonably free markets. Because really, isn't it redundant to throw out one bum because you're poor and unemployed just to usher in a new power that will also leave you poor and unemployed?

Hopefully the Egyptians use their collective heads.

The ones with the biggest guns will always have the power. Sad but true...

Until the people take those guns away. After all, who is it manning those guns? Just ordinary people, not the generals, not the Elite, not the Kings or presidents. All they have to do is turn the guns in the other direction. It's happened many times before.

But yes, those with the biggest guns win, it's just a matter of who those guns are being aimed at, at the moment... always subject to change.

The only guns not in the hands of THE PEOPLE are nuclear ones (probably a good thing).

Remember that in the Egyptian revolution, the army did not aim at the people. In fact, they did more policing of the pro-Mubarak forces than of the protesters.

However that doesn't seem to work so well in the USA as witnessed below...

The US military has always been willing to kill those they vow to protect. They follow orders regardless of who they are ordered to kill, even though the protests are peaceful and they are in no danger. Just like the Nazis did. "I was only following orders to kill my fellow citizens." The Egyptian army has more honor than the US military.

And now with an army full of mercenaries, who are paid killers, instead of draftees, they'll have even more incentive for a bloodbath!

This is the hypocritical US government suppressing free speech with deadly force.

I now count 8 different countries in the region undergoing revolution!

Is this great or what? It is a shame that people are being slaughtered by their governments. But this is EXACTLY how Gandhi taught it should be done. Yes there will be casualties. But once the people lose their fear of the government, the government then fears the people, and then it cannot last.

And it's still inspiring these mass revolutions.

Ahimsa works! When you protest non-violently and the government responds with violence, then those people who have sat on the sidelines or even supported the government, get to see the bankrupt morality of their leaders and come out in support of the protests. At that point the government's mandate is over, and their legitimacy voided.

How far is all this going to go to stoke the fire of change around the world? I for one am certainly champing to get out and do the same in this country. Peacefully of course... I hope all governments around the world soon realise that there are more of us than there are of them, and the folly of their ways. They fucked with us too much.

Maybe if the entire world decends into anarchy we might be surprised to find that people don't want to fight! Everyone has had enough of war and repression, which largely is the result of governments exercising too much power.

As much as people disagree with anarchy an think about how everyone will become violent from "no rules" is total bullshit. Look at what world governments are doing! Its on every continent. The world needs anarchy no more than ever, the politicians would be killed, their homes burned, and I bet you the people would come together and build a better world.

We must come together as one and stand against them. Its sad that its mostly poor nations starting the movement. We must get the already living well to start.

I try to spread the word as much as I can.

There are billions of us and just a handful of them. When it comes to the crunch we are all beginning to see who their armies want to support.

If we all toppled our governments then we'd all have something that connected us in a way never before.

Sadly though the reality is that the most tyranical governments (UK, US, China, Russia...) would really crack down on things if they got really out of hand, unless Dr Sharp has any ideas...

Let them come with guns. The more of us they kill the more who will take to the streets in anger, and then they will have to kill us all or surrender.

i don't think there's any turning back now. what i wonder is 'where is it going?'. the destination of these things is not always apparent....for examples, look at:

    1. american revolution-1770s
    2. french revolution-1790s
    3. russian revolution-1917
    4. weimar republic-1919 (which resulted in, no matter the terms, a revolution in about 20 years)

i can't put on rose colored glasses over revolutions given their history.

revolution? yeah! but a word from the past--the revolution will not be televised. why? because the vast majority of people will be occupied with some inane, superficial, meaningless and mind-numbing (non) activity; the revolution will just pass the apathetic majority right by w/o the slightest wimper. so just let the revolution come; it's needed. but then again who's gonna notice, who's gonna care? when we shout "power to the people", how many people are going to respond? paisley skye.
