even though they are trite & cheeky, I think charlaine harris deserves mention for her sookie stackhouse series. Not as fond of the were-related story lines, but I thoroughly enjoy the vamp characters. they aren't horror related at all the the vamps are generally good-natured. HBO is even in the works of making a series out of em.
I don't think anyone mentioned Nancy A. Collins. She has a great series about a vampire named Sonja Blue. The first three books are sold in a trilogy called Midnight Blue. I've also read a series by Barb and J.C. Hendee that starts with a book titled Dhampir. I've enjoyed this series, but not enough to buy the latest book in hardback. Take that for what you will. I've also been reading Mary Janice Davidson's Undead and _____ series. It's pretty lighthearted, much like someone else mentioned about the Charlaine Harris series. By the way, Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries are the subject of HBO's new series. Though this thread was started to inquire about vampire based novels, it bears mentioning that Kelley Armstrong writes a series called Women of the Otherworld if for no other reason than she has a website where you can read some of her work for free. Here it is: http://http://www.kelleyarmstrong.com/index.html
Carmilla..by Sheridan Lefanu...its a classic...it was shocking in its day for the lesbian theme running through its pages !!!
STEPHENIE MEYER'S STRAIGHT UP! an I havent read it yet but I just got a Vamp Book 2day @ the library By R L Stine called "Dangerous Girls" it soundz really good
Its a really good book. Its just came out this month. I bought it a couple days ago...read it in two days! Its author is Melissa De La Cruz. I fully recomend this book!!!! Masquerade
The Keep and Midnight Mass by F. Paul Wilson are both very good and very different vampire books IMO. They are not related to one another either. You Suck, A Love Story by Christopher Moore Sisters of the Night : The Angry Angel by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. There is a sequel which is good as well. Each of them go through the rather epic story of how a girl becomes "a bride of Dracula." This also qualifies as historical fiction btw. Fat White Vampire Blues by Andrew Fox. A Chill In the Blood and other Jack Flemming books in the series by P.N. Elrod Interview With A Vampire, The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice. Guilty Pleasures and other Anita Blake books by Laurell K. Hamilton Blood Price and other books in that series by Tanya Huff The Sookie Stackhouse Series, the first one is titled, Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris The Queen Betsy series by Mary Janice Davidson's. It starts off with Undead and Unwed. There is much more but that's what I've come up with just off the top of my head atm.
Stephanie Meyers Twilight and New Moon are pretty good. they're about a boy vampire who falls in love with a human girl...pretty awesome you should check them out if you like vampires and romance novels
Twilight!!!!!! its amazing and you must must must read it. then you will be come addited and read the sequels. (New Moon and Eclipse)
I have it bedside waiting for my attention right now. I believe it's a teen book about vampires. http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/twilight_reviews.html I believe it is also a romance of sorts which kind of worries me.
I did like Twilight as it turned out. I've now read the new two. I'm waiting for another volume to come out.
Christine Feehan.. her dark series... i cant putem down, typically i dont like love novels, but you add the vampires....yes...their great.
Yeah, I'm not much for romance novels either. I think I've read two of hers. I've heard raves but they weren't for me. The presumption of the males really put me off.
the first one i read was like that for me too, i really like the mystery of the race. i just finsished the last one and their starting to get into the lycans now. Anne Rice will always be my favs. but unfortunatly, no more to come from her....
Interview With a Vampire was great for me. I guess Anne Rice broke my vampire novel reading cherry. She didn't put another out for a decade. In the meantime I found plenty of good vamp fiction to read as well as some real clunkers. Dracula was horrible for me. There were no characters to pull for. I'm hoping to read the orginal vampire story Camille soon. I hear it beats the heck out of Dracula. Of course it wouldn't take much to do that for me, just a decent story and some likeable characters.
the silence of the lambs, and all of harris other books in this saga. one hell of a way, way different vampire saga!
