I truly appreciate Old Troll, and I know he means well, but I find his posts are often very condescending and narrow minded. It's the same way in the birth control forum, misinformation is spread like crazy in there.

I was a student midwife, and my teacher had many vegan clients. Ina May Gaskin and the farm are vegetarians, and many are vegan. She mentions that pre-eclampsia is nearly unheard of in vegans. That is something worth noting, because pre-eclampsia is spilling of protein. Vegans obviously are going to need high quality protein, but there is no reason a vegan diet can not be healthy in pregnancy and keep you extremely low risk. Healthy women make healthy pregnancies make healthy babies. If you are a whole foods vegan, you have nothing to worry about.

It's called pica! My friend's mother had a craving for cellar dirt, but only from her cellar. There is some theories as to why women crave these things, and usually there is a nutritional component missing. That is partially my theory though, there.

My mom craved Big Macs when she was pregnant with me; I'd classify that as pica, personally!!
