Usually being a vegetarian is very healthy, it's a good detoxifying diet and all those fruits and veggies bring plenty of benefits.
Right, except you can't reverse aging. A low calorie diet will slow down your metabolism and cause you to age slower and live longer. Just being vegetarian doesn't necessarily mean your eating right but many vegetarians probably also avoid high calorie foods, dairy/milk fats.
As another person alluded to, there is a difference between being a vegetarian and being a healthy vegetarian, since I have known many vegetarians over the years who eat loads of garbage and are not even close to healthy. So, no, I would say HEALTHY = YOUNGER LOOKING. You can eat meat and be every bit as healthy as some people believe vegetarians to be, granted you are eating sustainably farmed meat from cows that eat grass (not grain), and not the factory farmed shit that is pumped full of hormones and antibiotics. I am a proud meat eater, and don't think I am any less healthy than a devout vegetarian. In fact, most of the vegetarians I have known didn't have much of a clue about what healthy eating is. That's probably why they believe that all meat is created equal and that it's all inherently bad. I am a person who says meat is healthy and is beneficial to most people, but I am not going to trash someone for being a vegetarian, especially if they truly eat healthy -- not processed shit that comes in packages. I cannot take anyone seriously who calls themselves a vegetarian, yet drinks soda (regular soda or diet) or gorges themselves on sweets.
Agreed - I can't stand that processed vegetarian meat substitute shit. And food like sweets, soft drinks etc should be avoided by all - meat eaters and vegetarians. I do think a vegetarian who eats an unprocessed, healthy, and varied diet is extremely healthy, however. I don't know if it has made me look any younger, but since I gave up meat I haven't been sick - except for this stupid allergic reaction to quinoa I am currently suffering from, lol.
No, I can't agree. The only look a vegetarian accumulates is the look of AIDs and general health concern.
Necrothreading for the win. To answer the OP, again, I think a diet high in produce and low in processed foods is the dominant factor. I personally feel meat makes me sluggish, always has. Even if it was to shut up a weeks to months long craving. Others tolerate meat well. We technically all should, as humans evolved to eat what is available (see my many uses of "opportunivores"). To the poster above, that is the most uninformed thing I have read here in a long while, and that is saying something.
My thoughts are this: We haven't found the fountain of youth. Diet and exercise sure as hell aren't it. Aging is not a disease, its a natural process every human being goes through. Eat whatever you want, exercise as much as you want you aren't going to change the aging process at all. You will maintain optimal health as you age if you follow a healthy lifestyle. People have a tendency to associate good health with youth which is why we have this mistaken belief going around that we can stop/slow down the aging process with diet and exercise. You may see some 70 or 80 year old in the gym keeping up with the 20 to 30 year olds once in awhile and assume their healthy living has made them immortal. They may be stronger, and more physically fit than that couch potato 20 year old, but the couch potato 20 year old is still likely going to be attending the healthy physically fit 80 year old's funeral someday, because the 80 year old, though very fit, is still going to die. So anytime you see a product that says, "stop and slow down the aging process", its bullshit. You arent going to do anything to the aging process with fad diets, supplements, or herbs. Your going to get old, face it. Dont like the idea of getting old? Better start smoking like a train, sitting on your ass all day, and eating shit so that you dont live long enough to get old. Other good ways to stop yourself from getting old: Join the army and sign up for the front lines, join a violent gang, work in a meat packing plant(one of the most dangerous jobs in the USA rumor has it).
No, I don't think if you become a vegetarian or have a vegetarian diet that you look younger. But, if you do other things that are considered healthy, alongside being vegetarian, then yes... I do think you can look younger. Same goes with any other diet and lifestyle choice in terms of food.
I don't think vegetarians look any younger. I won't hesitate to say though, that many I've seen pictures of looked very malnutrition like. =\
I feel different diets work for different people, and not everything works for everyone. I feel my diet, which is not a vegetarian diet, has made me look considerably younger and healthier. I have seen a lot of vegetarians and vegans who look very healthy and younger than their age, but I have also seen some who appear to have aged considerably and are gaunt looking. An example would be vegan YouTube celebrity Durianrider.
I've been vegetarian for 17 years. Most people can't guess my age, they usually guess about 10 years younger than I actually am... I'm 29 and still always get carded for alcohol. I've even been carded when my younger friend wasn't carded. I think healthy eating plays a huge role in that, but a rough life can undo that too. So that's not to say that if you're a meth addict and vegetarian that you'll be forever young, right?
As a former security guard etc. we have a liability to card whomever looks under 30 and in some cases, identification is needed to gain entry into a premise or to even buy things at certain stores no matter if you're 90 but look 100 you're still asked for identification.. so don't feel too special or nothin'. Sounds like people are doing their jobs. Thumbs up.
