I am a raw foodist, but not a raw vegan, because I eat honey and pollen from happy bees . Humans have the natural instinct to do a lot of things, but we also have the intelligence not to run completely on our desires. If we fucked every time we got the urge, think how many more orphaned children there would be. That's just one very obvious example. If you use your intelligence and really look into the issue, you'll find that the way meat is consumed in our society today is not natural, it is a perversion, and it is irresponsible to take part in it. There is nothing we could do as a society that would more benefit the environment, our health, our economy, our consciousness, and the way we treat eachother than to switch to a vegetarian diet. It doesn't really matter what we're biologically capable of eating, the fact is that we can get everything we need, nutritionally, without meat. Meat that has to be raised on farms with antibiotics, fed plants for years, slaughtered, packaged, transported, and cooked has so many negative effects on the planet and the person who eats it... and it is so far removed from a hunter killing another animal and eating it right away. Think of all the steps in that process, and think of all the waste that could be eliminated without it. Not eating meat really changes your consciousness. We truly are what we eat. If you're constantly ingesting something infused with pain and suffering and greed, how do you think you're going to feel? Vegetarianism is one of the easiest and most important steps toward eliminating unneccesary suffering.
I'd be proud of myself if I saved a person's life, or planted a tree, or if I broke an addiction. Why not? It's a benevolent pride. It's a sense of feeling that you're on the right path, and growing as a person. Self righteousness is another thing... but even a self righteous person who's doing good is probably prefferable to a self righteous person who's inflicting pain on others. Have you seen the sense of pride in a person who's just killed an animal? I'm from Alaska so I've seen a lot of it, and it is not a benevolent pride. It comes from a feeling of superiority and control over another living being. It's the pride that comes from violence. There's nothing wrong with it, really, it's natural, but it isn't conscious. It comes from an illusion of power and dominance. If you're trying to live a conscious life, that feeling is infectious and something you try to fight off every day.
Is that to say though that a person cannot live a carnivorous lifestyle and still be a decent human being? I'm more curious with some opinions of people. I consider myself a rather friendly individual, though I'm very much an introvert, and I eat meat quite often. Is it possible for a person to stave off those power driven illusions, given enough patience and discipline? I think it is, but I'm looking for your opinion.
power, control, it is everything to humans. But humans can gain control with their words, control over ideas and concepts. You have to be understanding to do this, and otherwise you will have to find your control in a physical or personal realm
It's absolutely possible to be a good person in any & every situation. We just tend to make it difficult for ourselves, and the more obstacles we put in our way, the more effort it takes. I don't want to get way too heavy or opinionated, but you can take Jesus as an example. He was all about loving everyone unconditionally... and it's easy to love someone when they're doing what you want them to, but most of us have some point at which we say, "no, that's too far, I don't love you anymore." But Jesus even loved the people who were crucifying him. That's how strong his love was. I don't know if my love is that strong, so if I want to be someone who is unconditionally loving, I'm going to avoid being crucified, not wanting to put myself in a situation where I know I'm likely to not be able to love the person killing me. If we have an intention for who we want to be, we can either make it a reality by controlling our mental state first, or manipulate our mental state by controlling our physical state. It's a lot easier, in most cases, to control the physical. For example... we take LSD, which is a physical thing, to affect our mental state. We don't need LSD to get to that mental state, but it makes it a lot easier.
i can see lsd having an effect in turning me off of meat. eating steak on shrooms was relatively meaningless, and i found no real joy in the meat. probably just due to the shrooms appetite effects tho....
True But at some point you realize it's just easier, in the long run, if you refrain from punching your best friend in the face. And from there, it all starts to unfold... we each reach a point where we pull the wire and get off. Some sooner than others. It doesn't really matter, it's just a ride .
life puts poison in other life, and feeds it to other life for degenerative effects. life clones life and sells it to other life cheap at every fast food establishment.
Fruits may be created for the soul purpose of being eaten, but that doesn't change the fact that they are part of a living organism.
Next time you trip try eating fresh raw veggies and sprouts. Fruit is also amazing. Pay attention to how you feel eating the veggies then later on in the trip eat a Berger and see how you feel.
Are the lions putting hormones and antibiotics into this wild animal? Are they putting this animal in cages and torturing them? Cloning them? Selling them? How can you guys not see how fucked up the meat industry is...? I have no problem with eating animals...but JFC, this is 2008, things are not what they used to be. If you care about your health and Earth you should seriously consider this.
LOL. did you factor in the cost to your body and to the planet? I know u meant your pocketbook, but all things considered, fastfood comes at a heavy heavy price. walmart is cheap too but those low prices come at a very high cost. veggies beans and seeds are truly cheap (for now anyway lol)
