Virtual Halloween Party Thread

I should have taken a picture...

TWICE this morning, once as I returned from my jog and again returning from buying a breakfast bar at the grocery store THERE WAS AN OWL on the telephone lines.

Now then... you may be feeling like "wtf are you yelling for? it's a blessed OWL, not the Queen..." or something.

Well, you're right. It's just an owl.

Big as a cat, this bird... and when I thought on it, it occurred to me, "shit! it's Halloween and that type of bird is an omen!".

The one day each year when the barrier between the living and the dead is at it's thinnest

 

I can remember... not long after I was out of high school, there were punks...

Literally.

A group of people, mostly younger than I who were genuinely involved in our local punk culture - which exists, or did in Ventura county.

Why the world am I bringing it up here? Well... Here is just one example:



Punk, has firmly established roots in Halloween-ish sorts of things. AFI are known that way, but you have also like a Ballroom Blitz-y sound that to me truly sounds like a Halloween Party!

Anyway, the group of kids were really big. So, these people weren't my closest mates - they were from a different high school by and large, and they weren't into the same drugs (most punks are at least a little bit straight-edge, meaning they're averse to like cocaine, or whatever I was doing... (a variety of illicit substances - don't count me out!) But there were at least ten people who were more into punk than they were into anything else I was doing.

And this time of year, the punk somehow enters my catalogue. There's an affinity, but also a testament... to their courage, their notoriety, and their devotion.

The people are, or at least were committed to a meaningful set of values originating from this music - if you've never experienced punk rockers this probably sounds absurd. They're a little like a vegan who is violently political and rebellious... (isn't that like every vegan?).
