WE vote by mail in Oregon. Gives us time to study the ballots and make informed choices (sez me) and they are not counted on the net. That would pretty much take care of election interference, I believe. The quicker this is done nationally, the better. Why should people have to drive somewhere and stand in line to cast ballots? (so in many places,"they"can exclude some voters, he says. )

I agree and would add that all hard copies be kept by the authorities and an additional original copy be kept by the voter. We don't need the Republicans to be harping about some hanging Chad. Computers have proven themselves to be vulnerable. We don't need votes switched after some hacker got in the system.

E-Vote with Full Transparency. Publication of everyone's vote and complete tallies. That ends all cheating.

On the subject of elections... Drug test all candidates, with full disclosure.

End lobbying. End Representative Government. No Congress, No Senate, No President.
Time for real Government, of the people, by the people, for the people.

And not on a national level, on a global level.

Where there are no artificial borders (physical and mental) separating the people, there can be no wars.

I would still want the voter to be able to challenge a discrepancy. Hard copies are needed until someone convinces me otherwise.

That's the point of making everyone's vote public, so citizen can check it was recorded right after the fact. it can then be challenged and corrected if necessary.

    Voting by mail sounds suss

But voting by smartphone would be more secure than ID checks at ballot boxes

Willing to go along but would like to see it work first. Things work well in Colorado. Here in Indiana we are under total control of the Republicans.

I can envision a three-way verification system for voting and then verifying the votes by those who voted. Say within 24 hrs a vote can be changed if not correct. After 24 hrs those votes are visible by everyone. You should be able to drill down until you get to vote tallies in your own neighborhood. Then you can see how your neighbors voted.

So there would be no more secret ballots. We don't like when our politicians do it in Congress, so why should we accept it at all?

Imagine that scenario where everyone can research everyone else's votes.

I know that's supposed to be some kind of nightmare esp. if the government wants to take revenge (oh, no an American leader wanting revenge on political enemies? Never happen!!! Yeah, right, watch your back James Comey, he's coming for you...)

But in my scenario, there IS NO GOVERNMENT to get angry at you. Perhaps your spouse or drinking buddies.

But ya know, just like when they try to keep employee salaries secret, when everyone knows where everyone else stands, everyone benefits, instead of just those who manipulate and profit from you.

Here in WA State we have vote by mail as well a plethora of drop off sites. As long as the community is responsible it works slick....got nothing to do with derogatory statements about liberals or leftists or minorities tho. That’s just the Republican kool aid talking.

It sounds real good at face value; but, we do need to fine tune it. (1) if our vote is public domain information, then the political parties will come knocking on your door and demand you vote for them, or pay you to vote for them. (2) Here in Indiana, they don't have party affiliation on the registration card. It's a trick the Republicans used to change the law, so they can send you their mail, and knock on your door. And believe me, they can get aggressive. So, I wish to see safeguards (3) let's make it so there is no intimidation of voters just as there cannot be intimidation of witnesses in a court trial. (4) The government agency in charge of elections should publish the candidate's position, right along with a ballot initiative so we could know in advance what we wish to vote on. (5) Dan Rostenkowski went to prison for violating the FRANKING PRIVILAGE of Congress, meaning he sent out flyers for his candidacy at tax payer expense. So, a strong argument can be made for tight control of political advertisements in that regard; moreover, with that same power we can eliminate false information and disinformation like that which Trump got against Hillary.

I don't recall the postal service here in Oregon or up in Washington closing down because of vote by mail. I assume they prepare for extra mail as they do for xmas.

I was gonna say the Postal Service would probably lose the ballots. I get my neighbor's mail all the time. How hard can it be to deliver mail anyway? It's got the address right there on it.

Then we get the same mess as we saw in Iowa.

voting by smartphone would drop voter turnout to about 5%, considering the people who actually vote are typically the old folks who can't even figure out how to get to the internet on their phones.
