Supposedly, when the aliens first planted the machines, humans woulnt have been around, so maybe as earth developed and humans came about, new bacterias were formed that the aliens were not immune to. And I think the machines were suppossed to be like hybrid biotic/mechanical (ie the orange juice stuff that poured out, and that red thing that sucked Cruise up.)
Knowing those two you could bet your life saving on that I'm sure I'll see it sometime and enjoy it because I have no expectations.....maybe like I did with Liquid Sky
"Signs" wasnt just some discrete independant film...The person comparing the two was probably just comparing the directors vision of aliens maybe?
I wondered how they knew, and i think they probably put robots on many planets in case life formed maybe? And it was probably by chance that one was in the city.... a couple were walking around farm towns sooo
good point. they did seem to crop up in all major cities. As for the bacteria, the aliens just shot the machines into the earth and came to operate them later. I really liked the movie. i saw it at the drive-in and i am going to see it again tonight. It nearly gave me an anxiety attack and somehow i found that highly enjoyable. The ending was crappy but what can you do? It had to end somehow.
It was kinda crappy though, considering aliens that advanced would have been studying all life on earth microscopic but hey.
Spyder, hate to let you know, but it was very Americanised as it is set in the north east US (new york I believe). The ending of the movie is based on the book and does happen quiet suddenly. the CG is really good. they did a great job on the pods, but the aliens kinda reminded me of the ID4 aliens. the opening "attack" is fantastic. I really dislike tom cruise, I think he is a hack and his acting in this movie isn't good. His character is stereotypical divorced man with a huge chip on his shoulder. His ex has the perfect life, has the kids and they like mom's new husband which infuriates dad to no end. There are a number of plot holes. Dakota Fanning is annoying, the screaming gets old very quickly and I just don't buy her character. the ending didn't surprise me in the least, I saw it coming. If they don't issue a director's cut with added scenes, I won't get it. I'm glad I "only" got burned $5.00 for this movie.
I enjoyed the film. The CG was great, I enjoyed Dakota fanning's performance, and I was very impressed with Tim Robbins in his bit part. I liked the fact that the tripods retained their "old school" look. War of the Worlds isn't Spielberg's best film by a long shot, but I thought it was very entertaining.
