You know what The Stranglers said "Everybody loves you when you're dead." I saw the movie "The Doors" when I was 15 and thought that Jim Morrison was awesome. I saw it again when I was 20 and thought that Jim Morrison was a fucking self centered, egotistical asshole. It's amazing what maturing does for you. I like the Doors music but think that too much was put on Morrison. The fact that he died a fat, bloated, drug addict proves his mortality. As a Matter of fact so does this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONh8Sz7F3EA"]YouTube - morrison lament - jim morrison and jimi hendrix The fact that this piece of shit ever saw the light of day befuddles me. And this is the short version. Stay Brown, Rev J
Great documentary on PBS "When Your Strange". Catch it if you haven't already - tracks him from before he played til he died. Note: I learned that The Doors didn't have a bass in the band - strange indeed. (American Masters is the series)
I do like his voice and I do like his lyrics. He was lucky to be part of the Doors, if he wasn't I doubt we would have known him today.
The Oliver Stone movie is not the most accurate source for information on The Doors.Read all the books and watch the "When your strange" documentary and you'll get better idea of who Jim was.Yes, he was beligerant, drunk, asswhole. But he was also kind, generous, loving, talented, intelligent and much more.Just like all of us.No one is nice ALL THE TIME! p.s. for those few who say they prefer, there people who say he could be an asswhole some times too.
He was a fellow human and unless you knew him in person it's rather pointless to express your opinion about his personality. I guess the only use it has is to show your admiration of HIS WORK. Judging his acts and behaviour? Fine. Judging him as a person? WHY? We didn't freaking know him.
