Hahaha! Schittz? :p Nice. You're right about that kind of humour. Hopefully nothing I've done so far seems too forced.

I'm no comedy connoisseur by any means. Best thing for you is to draw out a few panels then revisit them a few days later and see if they're still as funny to you.

Eh, my jokes aren't really all that funny to me after I've put them down on paper. I normally think them up rather randomly while doing something else and find them funny then, but later I don't.

Well you probably don't want to go over the top with humor anyway... what you're doing seems to work well with this particular story. The interesting triangle you appear to be setting up with these three characters should offer ample opportunity to exploit man's pretentious and awkward nature for humor... depending on where your story line goes.

Heh hopefully. I'm not going out of my way to make jokes. I mean, I want it to be amusing (I don't really know if it is really or not), but I don't want to try too hard to get a chuckle out of the audience. Hopefully the next few pages will be quite funny, but at the same time relevant to the story :) Not sure when I'll next update, but I'll let you know..

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread so I'll know. Let the best humor lurk in the details that many will miss. Perhaps a box of Colon-Blo cereal can lurk on the pantry shelf of one of your characters for example. Take time to craft the upcoming frames into something that people will keep coming back just to see what they missed.

    No problem. :)

Remember, the laws of physics do not apply to cartoons... but from having seen the pool shot frame, I realize you already know that.

Subtle jokes are a great tool, and I like the way the comic's going so far =)

I personally like the "third wheel". He's funny without even saying anything. Give us more! :)

I'm glad you all like it :) Duke is actually going to be more of a main character, so hearing that people think he's a third wheel is pretty odd :p

I'll update later in the week. Sorry, school's started again so I won't have as much time to do this, but I'll update at least once a week still :)

I'm not sure if many people will get this. It's making a joke out of page 13 where she says that she has a tendency to make friends who are either gay or emo.

That's a good thing actually... you really DON'T want everyone to get it right away. Make 'em come back and think it over. It's akin to the best (IMO) stand up comedy which effectively divides the room where the laughter in response to a joke comes in bits and pieces- a portion gets the joke and laughs right away, another portion has to think about it then gets it, and yet another portion doesn't get it but laughs anyway because they don't want to look stupid.

Don't ever alter your work because you're worried that someone might not get a joke.. it has a way of watering down what you do. I needed the reminder of what she had said earlier but I get it-- pretty good actually. You're targeting people with a level of sophistication that puts them a tad above the regular herd. Very good work.

If you post them all in your journal in sequence sans commentary it'll give folks a full on look at your work and give them a better chance of understanding such humor without intervening posts like this one to distract. :)
