    How about Hoots and hellmouth?

They are a local band here in Pa. I first saw them about a year ago in the upstairs of a tiny bar in philadelphia. There was only 7 or 8 of us in the bar that night, but hoots played as if there was 10,000. They were jumping off tables and chairs running around as if possessed. I was sold.
I next saw them at a local music fest and have tix to see them again the end of sept. For something a little different, give them a try

you can listen to some tracks on their site

it was a joke. you really need to lighten up. and as for your son, children have a way of fooling parents. i wouldn't be so sure that your son is beyond low brow humour....i don't doubt he's smart....everyone has a soft spot for stupid jokes. and if you don't, then ones soul is as dry as paper...

DJ Williams Projekt.....ive avoided seeing these guys in the past cause of the DJ thing, but it turns out DJ is the guitarist name, not his profession. Saw them last week for the first time and was completely puddled. Hard to describe other than somewhere in the realm of jazz/funk with big swooping jams....they had the room hoppin'

Check out www.purpleschoolbus.com. They are out of Greenville NC and are a great live band to see. They have even played with Keller Williams!

Kung Fu Dynamite ...believe these guys are from asheville. saw them last night for the first time, and was really impressed. soulful jam-rock with horns & crunchy guitars...at different points they reminded me of the meters, panic, legion of mary, maybe a touch of early van morrison.....great musicians, good energy....i really liked their flow, and the way their jams developed....more 'organic' sounding than a lot of the newer bands ive seen in the past couple of years

    J-san and the Analoge sons
    http://www.jsanmusic.com/

I worked a Sara Hickman (singer songwriter) show last night, and thought I'd get on the bus and head home, buut me sweetie called the folk venue and offered to take me to Dulcinea's (local show club) "to dance."
I had no idea who was playing, but it was 20 degrees, windy and an hour until the bus came.
    so off I go.
on stage is J-san and the Analogue Sons, sort of a (reggae) dub meets jazz funk outfit. Some Marley esque guitra and a blistering lead guitarist, too. Sax, keys and drums (bass/ bottom on keys).
Very tight in a small, unresponsive talky crowd. they didn't let Denver showing it's ass discourage them. THey pumped out the heart.
J is a bit too big on "how are you Denver?" almost remnicient of Franti's "how you feeling?"
polishing up that part of the stage presence would help a lot.
But the songs and the lyrical messages were both technically good and emotionally present.
The band has been in some incarnation for a decade, this line up, eight months. New record out two-three days ago.

    I'd say four stars.

Hmmmmm... I have yet to see this live, but I did my pre-interview work, and since I like quirky and different, I wanted to share this guy with you:
    www.bobbyyang.com
crap site with slow loads at my work, so beware. He's also in myspace: /bobbyyang

He's confident, I'll hand him that. I managed to piss him off in the interview (but joked him out of it, so he gets over stuff. good sign) asking if he did anything but covers & he said, "would you ask Yitzak Pearlman if he did covers (no, but he isn't promoting hinself in the rebellious rock mode) or Miles Davis?"
Yang plays classic and hard rock on violin, with a jam take on it.
