YEah, Grandpa, there is ghosts. Believe it. Ghosts are why I split with my Christian church. They tried to tell us it was demons, and we were not to talk to them. We had a problem with that. A Demon would not cover up your shoulders at night and pat you on the leg affectionately.

OK, back to the house. Oh, Hey, not trying to hijack your thread. :) In our house, the noises were mostly in the attic at first. Heavy footsteps walking from the back of the house to the front, then over the next door neighbors apartment. This house was a huge mansion that had been divided into four apartments, did I mention that before?

The other problem with the walking up there, is that you literally could not walk up there. Each apartment had 1/4 of the attic, and all of us had our spots pretty well filled up. Yet at night we would hear big boots clomping across the floor, sometimes it sounded as if the person was dragging a big board or two by four across the floor on a rope or something.

One day I was tellin some of my hoodlum buddies about it (Yes I had a bunch of hoodlum buddies back then :) ) and they were laughing at me, tellin me I was smokin too much. All the sudden it started up, and he (the spirit) sounded agitated. I pointed up... "I bet you there ain't anyone up there at all" I said. There were three of em, up there with me, and all of em laughed it off. So we went out in the hall, where I had to get the old skeleton key and unlock the attic door, which was locked BTW.

I then had to climb the attic stairs in the dark, cuz of course in that old house there was no lightswitch, just a bare hanging bulb with a chain you had to pull. We looked all over, of course there was nobody there. Down the stairs we went, where I re-locked the attic door, and this time placed the key in my pocket and went back into my apartment.
We no more than pass through the doorway going back inside than the footsteps start up again, you could follow them from the back of my bedroom, up the hallway, to the living room, then across to my neighbors apartment, and back around again. By the way, she claimed to have never had a ghostly experience in the house.

My buddies were all excited, and we went back out and started to unlock the door. As I fumbled with the key, the heavy boots came stomping down the attic steps, stopping just on the other side of the door! This time the light was ON at the top of the stairs, and there was a frosted glass window in the door, and it was very easy to see that nobody had come down the steps.

"I'm outta here!" said one of my buddies, and down the front steps he went and out the door. I didn't have the balls to turn the key and open that door after that. I picked my buddy up a couple blocks down the street and took him home. He still talks about it to this day. This was early on in our hauntings, and it scared me some, I'll admit it. We didn't hear it anymore that day though, it was probably still rolling on the floor laughing at us.

There is so many stories to write, just about this house. We DID communicate with it, at least it heard us. It never spoke directly to us other than through actions. I'll keep sharing stories as long as others do. I tend to start feelin uncomfortable if I am the only one tellin em. :) Peace...

Hey Coopdog ! That is some occurence ! man that would creep a body right out ! I would love to hear more ! Here's another from my old place.... This is along the same lines as the story about the cat, but different. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone being haunted by animals, have you ? Anyway.....later that summer after the incident with the cat, I saw a box turtle. I have liked box turtles since I was a kid and thought it was a good thing he was around...you know, eating bugs and all. I kept seeing this turtle on the bricks that paved under the overhang outside the back door. This overhang was big enough to drive a horse and buggy under and extended all the way to the summer kitchen. (this house used to be part of a larger farm). So I see this turtle the rest of the summer almost everyday. Nothing strange about that. When we first moved into this house, it was a rental with the upstairs divided from the downstairs to make two apartments ( I didn't tell you that before) We made it back into a single family home. All along the front porch and side of the house was a sort of narrow flower bed. There wasn't much but weeds growing there except for one spot toward the back of the house. It had brilliant wildflowers growing there. I took a closer look at this spot and noticed the remains of what looked like a cross made of popsickle sticks tied together. I sort of figured it was the grave of a pet or something and left it alone. Remember that last part. So the summer is ending and it is starting to get a little colder at night. I told my wife I was going to bring that turtle I had been seeing in the house and set him up for the winter. I thought it would be cool to have him as a member of the family. after I said I was going to do this, I never saw the turtle again ! It had been there for weeks and i saw it everyday, and then it was just gone. So later on I was talking with the family that used to live in the lower part of the house. They had three young children and we were all pretty good friends. We were sitting around one afternoon in my kitchen and I was talking about the garden at the side of the house. I mentioned the wooden cross and was saying that I thought it was for some kind of grave. The youngest of the girls piped up and said yes, it was a grave. It was the grave of a pet box turtle ! That was surprising enough, but then I asked her how she knew ? Was it her pet buried there ? She told me it wasn't hers, it was Amy's. I asked who Amy was ? The little one told me that Amy was a girl she used to talk to when she was still living in the house. I asked her if Amy came over very often and where she lived. Chelsea (the young child of my friends) told me that she lived right here !(She pointed to the inside around our house). She lived here since along time ago is how she put it. So you tell me! What was that all about ?! Peace and Love

Yes, animals haunt people too. My wolf got poisoned somehow, and he is still around. (Pics of him in my gallery) We used to have a gang of yorkies, I swear I see em sometimes running with the one I still have. We took pics of my wolf, and the fog around him in several pictures looks like there is a spirit wolf running with him.

But back to the house, it was spooky at first, but we sure didn't have the money to move back then, and the rent was unbelieveably cheap, like $195 a month or something like that. Our ghost or poltergeist whatever you want to call it was very active. We didn't have to wonder if we were haunted, cuz it was very obvious we were.

For instance you could not lock the doors. They had the old fashioned chain slide locks, and if you were going to bed, and went to lock the front door, as often as not you would turn to walk away, hear a rattling noise and look back to see the chain part swinging freely against the wall, again unlocked.

We woke up several times to everything in the house being wide open on a snowy November morning, snow blowin in the windows, even the cupboard doors would be open. I saw that in a movie once and it chilled me bigtime, cuz that happened with us too. :)

These windows you could not open easily or quietly either, and I have always been a very light sleeper. These ones had the counterweights in the walls, so they made noise if you opened them. We slept through it all.

It would often take things and make it look like one person had done it. Twice I confronted people over taking stuff from me, and then later find it in strange places, like in the pocket of a coat hanging in the closet I hadn't worn in quite a while, or in the Kodak Camera case in the bottom of a closet. I'm talkin things like the rent money here, and my big gold ring, and smoke that wasn't mine. :)

Yeah, I got broke into ghosts pretty quickly at this place. There is a half dozen great stories yet to tell about this place, and that is really just scratchin the surface.
