I was kicked out of an vons before for not wearing shoes, mostly the reason I dont walk barefoot everywhere. I dont like to be treated like that. I walk barefoot around my neighborhood, but in order to do that I have to clean it up bc people throw their beer bottles on the ground, and I have gotten cut before. so cal sucks for barefooters, at least my experience. I still try as often as I can though.

There is only one Walmart that has asked me to leave, but I am never one to give up. Much to my surprise, the last time I went there, some of the employees pointed out to the greeter that there is no sign posted prohibiting bare feet. The greeter backed off but was clearly enraged. At that point, I didn't want to get anyone fired so I left quickly. Never say never!

It must depend on the individual store management at Vons. I've been barefoot at a Vons store with a U.S. Bank branch inside, where I used to have an account. Never had a problem with either the store or the bank. Have you ever tried going barefoot inside an Albertson's store? They're usually pretty barefoot friendly---at least the one near my home is. :)

I've been to a couple of Walmarts barefoot. In one, I wore barefoot sandals to see if I'd get by the greeter. I guess that gets an asterisk because of the barefoot sandals. I got past the greeter, but realistically, I think I would have been fine without the barefoot sandals. At the other Walmart, I went in completely barefoot. Again, no issues. In general I'm not a Walmart shopper; you're more likely to find me at Target - no problems there either!

I've gone barefoot to a few Albertson's as well. They don't have a big presence here and a few of their stores have closed. I haven't had any problems there, and very few issues in grocery stores in general.

I can't believe all the shit you have to put up with about being barefoot! In new zealand we would not tolerate any of this bullshit! Im barefoot all the time, as are my two children, we go shopping together barefoot without any issues at all, never been kicked out of any shop.
It cant be against the law surely to be barefoot in the US? What a stuffed up country!

Don't know about the US, but deffo not illegal in UK. But as I've said elsewhere, I'm starting to get some weird looks, probably because of the season. Am I bothered? Course not!!!!:)

There is no law against being barefoot here in the US. But MANY stores and businesses have "shoes required" policies, for whatever reason. In some cases because they think they'll get sued if someone hurts their bare foot in the store. And believe me, there are some lawsuit-happy Americans who would certainly do it. But if the store has the policy then they're protected.

I'm one to want to SEE the policy posted clearly if there is one. If no such policy is posted and the people in the store get all up in arms about it, that's when I have a problem.

But unfortunately that doesn't stop businesses for making their own policies.

If you ever harassed or prevented from shopping at Walmart immediately ask for a manager when the manager arrives ask for them to print the policy against barefoot. They can't since it doesn't exist. Then threaten to call 1-800-WAL-MART
