Struggling through Philosophy In The Bedroom by de Sade. I wanted to read some of his work because he is supposedly infamous and now considered a great writer. Well, this is probably one of the dumbest things I've ever read. I think it can maybe be appreciated in some historical context. It must have been really over the line in his time. Blasphemous.

Before that, I read his Justine which was much more readable but still comical. You have to have a twisted mind to think some of that stuff up. I have two more of his works to go after this one....if I make it that long.

Have given up all reading except that which helps me to become a better musician and producer.I virtually give up on all knowledge outside of this area because I really need to focus on one area of study and make this my specialism.

Really trying to get into 'Thinking: Fast and Slow'...but it's hard going.
The book has won all these awards and seems like an interesting subject.

    From the NYT:

So as you can see...it's going to be a dense, doorstopper type of deal that I'll need to commit to. And, I'm not sure that I'll make it.

    Hello,

It's a novel about Galileo Galilei. Recensions at this on-line bookstore are quite good. But I haven't formed my opinion yet. I got the book for less than five bucks, it seems to be worth the money.

    Regards
    Gyro

    Hello,

yepp, it's about Galileo. As a novel it tells a story about Galileo, his family and his life in general. I don't know how accurate the story is,
but it's nice to see the person behind the technical achievements made by Galileo.

    Regards
    Gyro

    Hello,

his mother is depicted as a cantankerous woman who can't handle money ;). Galileo himself is most of the time in trouble with the surrounding persons. Mainly because he is, like in the modern stereotypic geek image, very undiplomatic when it comes to saying his opinion. If the invention or idea of some other guy is shit, he says that it is shit. Only thinking later about how the other guy would caluminate him at other influencial and important people.

    Regards
    Gyro

I wonder if that (his moms behaviour for instance) is based on anything solid. But it could still be good if the characters are kinda invented but the details about the time period and setting are accurate and well informed. If they would be lacking as well it sounds like not the book for me. Doesn't change that the subject is very interesting and worthy of a book in my opinon (but not just of any book) :)

    Hello,

I don't have too much knowledge about that time period, but in the first 200 pages of the book no mechanical clocks or cars or computers appeared ;).

    Regards
    Gyro
