Some of what still remains... I still wear my belt, medicine bag... they are recovered from under my pillow every morning and along with jeans and a tunic top the first things I put on every day. Still switch one of my rings from hand to hand before I sleep. Most of my talismans remain as they were. I still wear "The Hat" when I go out anywhere. Incense once a day, most days. Still leave the occasional gift of tobacco, (but the occasions seem to be less and less) What has dropped away The perpetual candle had to go away for monetary reasons as did several other "highly" important practices (hint, hint) All of the daily blessing of the well, the trees, tending to the gardens stayed up there in those mountains I once knew... Kinda sucked the wind out of my sails for anything else.
Just lately I've become really paranoid that I might leave something private lying around at work, so I have this thing where I check all the areas I've been in before leaving. I accidentally left my mobile phone there once and I was panicking about my colleagues reading my texts all weekend. As they were able to look me in the eye that Monday, I think I got away with it.
i really dont dig routine ... i try to avoid it at all costs ... if i feel im falling in the routine ... i try to do things different... anyway, i believe the only thing i do everyday the same way is taking a shower right after i come home ... besides that everything is different, eat at different times, different places, do different things in different times, hell, even sleep at different hours and different rooms of the house...
Awaken Shit Shower Shave Dress Eat Drive Work Leisure Sleep Awaken And then one day simply drop dead from repetition Hotwater
the one thing I cant stand missing in my day is a shower as soon as I get up...ive only missed a couple of days since about 1988 and it was only due to power outages or loss of water service
I usually drink one or two cups of green tea a day. Feed my dog twice a day and let her out 3 times a day. I do this at the same time every day and its not very exciting lol but its certainly routine. No other rituals until bedtime, when I become extremely OCD. -hang up or neatly fold clothes or sort it into dirty laundry -make up my bed -sweep up dog hair -line up my chapstick and lighters in perfect order on my dresser. This act always makes me strangely happy.
Hummm...BBAD's shower thing reminded me of my super cold or snow day ritual of baking in the bath tub. My upstairs bathroom is kinda open into my bedroom but I curtain it off, put a space heater by the tub, put on a CD of tropical rainforest sounds, light candles and turn off the lights. Sometimes with the nudge from organic friends I can just drift away in my little make-believe cucoon. Dumb? yeah maybe but it's my dumb and I like it so...?
Each day is different for the most part. Though every morning i wake up the first thing i do is take the dog outside to pee and shit. As she is doing her business im trying to snort up all the lung butter and flem in my mouth from the weed smoke the night before. Its not the most attractive thing...but ya gotta spit out the gunk. After that i have a cup or 2 of coffee.
Rituals aren't necessarily the same thing as routines. But some people can make their routines rituals... Routines are mundane daily/weekly habits or duties. Like many people have posted here... shit/shower/shave, type stuff. Usually there's not much thought process going on here, or the thought process going on is about something other than what you are doing at the time. (Like making coffee but thinking about that drive to work, or whatever.) Rituals carry more of a spiritual vibe to them. The candles for family, smudging, etc. For this to be a working ritual your thought process needs to be tuned into the actions of lighting that candle, your family, protection/health... whatever the ritual is. It's like (or it is) a prayer. (to God, Goddess, Creator, "whatever floats your boat") If you don't like the word prayer, then a form of meditation. One who can integrate the ritual into their routine is one who leads a "spiritual life" and that person may not be religious at all.
i am so confused on your gender lol. I thought you were a guy for the longest time ,then I thought that girl that used to be in your sig pic was you. And now you jerk off. goddamnit stop confusing me!
I always find the time to meditate and do my yoga. The only other thing I do that is ritual is my bath time and that for me has to be peaceful. It has to smell great and have candles lit and just let the water run and the sounds and smells of bath salts wash over me and I feel great when done. Oh, and clean.
