I never have liked the name. It makes me visualize an ugly old housewife with no personality or education. Have you noticed all the Ontario license plates in the parking lots? WTF? I hear that the golf courses are phenomenal, for those who care. I don't. You have to be over 21 to go in the strip clubs, most of which are just fronts for prostitution, especially around the Intracoastal Waterway downtown (near where Waccamaw Pottery used to be). But yeah, entering one of the older waterfront hotels (ex.: the old Yachtsman) feels like magically stepping into an R-rated spring break movie from 1986. If you REALLY want to get grossed out, try Club 2000, or whatever its name is now, if it has survived. It used to be three HUGE nightclubs under one roof. One was closed when I was there last. The first was for young idiots who drank until they puked. The unofficial theme of the second room was, "I'm divorced and desperate because I'm uglier than shit." :ack2: Places like that helped Old Myrtle earn its nickname "Redneck Riviera" and pushed a lot of visitors in the direction of North Myrtle. The sand and water conditions are pretty much the same all the way from the Little River Inlet (Cherry Grove) down to Garden City. Best on the east coast, with the exception on Daytona. I really like the southwest end of Ocean Isle, just north of Calabash. Bald Head is cool too. Strange choice of words. Tasteless, maybe, but not trash. The buildings and most of what's in them: expensive. Extravagant landscaping, lakes, water fountains, etc. I agree that there is absolutely no reason for a vegetarian to ever go there. Seafood rules. The Little River Inlet is the main home port of the SC fishing industry. Some of the restaurants near there serve fish that was caught earlier the same day, at good prices. :drool5:
