I was starving when I got up this morning. I made an egg over easy in brown butter (yum) over hash browns. And I replenished my berry supply!

A tartine for lunch, tomato and applewood smoked cheddar with fresh basil on seven grain pumpkin seed bread.

I used 2 cups of masa flour to 1-1/2 cups water, with a splash of oil in the water. When you roll or press them, put the dough between two pieces of parchment paper, or wax paper. I found it peeled off pretty easily, though you have to do it slowly. Make sure the paper doesn't fold over in places as you peel it off, that's tends to crack the dough. The flour is called "masa harina".

    Masa harina explained:

Yes, you're supposed to just press it if you have a tortilla press. The videos show them pressing down on the press just a couple of times. But reviews for the presses are mixed, not all good. Seems it doesn't press it thin enough sometimes and you have to resort to a rolling pin after all, so it might not be any better than using a pot. And the handles tend to break, so I don't know. I might stick with the pot and rolling pin.

I just baked fresh bread. The house smells wonderful. I made a plain whole wheat bread, I haven't had one in a while.

And lamb is platinum. I bought chicken drumsticks that were on sale instead. Hopefully there's no poultry shortage in the foreseeable future.

I did some cooking (and eating!) today.

Breakfast was an egg salad sandwich on the whole wheat bread I made yesterday.

I got a spiralizer so I was playing with it today. The dern thing is fun. And so easy to use and quick to clean and the veg "noodles" are pretty. I was a bit dubious, but I was amazed at how good the meal tasted, I'll definitely be using it often.

These are the noodles after spiralizing.

    Sautéing them up a bit.

Mix in some grated parmesan (I used asiago) and top with roasted cherry or grape tomatoes. I forgot to take a pic when it was done, I was in a rush to eat it before it got cold. Here's the recipe picture. The recipe called for zucchini but I added sweet potato to mine.

And dinner was an avocado asparagus tomato salad with fresh basil and feta cheese in an olive oil and Dijon mustard dressing. It's one of my favourite recipes.

I did drink a Guinness but left the green food coloring out this time

All your pictures above are beautiful, they look like they could be in a food magazine. I need to get one of these spiralizers!

Throw in some spinach next time. lol

I highly recommend the spiralizers! It's easy to use and not motorized so you don't have to be worried about making noise at odd hours. I love my gadgets (must have too much testosterone in my system) but there are too many noisy ones out there. It's fun to use, so it will prompt me to eat more veggies, always a good thing.

I got mine for a steal, I have no idea why it was so low. Only thing I can think of is that everyone wants the green ones (which were at regular price) and this one is red and black. Or they might be overstocked. When I saw the price I went for it. They're around $50 here and I got it for $18 (that's about $13 U.S.). This one is a Paderno, the 3-blade, apparently one of the originals. There are a lot of knockoffs now so I'd read reviews before you decide on one. There are some crazy expensive ones out there too, I can't imagine what the advantages are. I hate investing in a supposedly better product only to have it break sooner than a cheaper version.

i editted a bit, but damn that sandwich looks and sounds good! I'll have to do egg salad again soon.

Also, the "roommate" steamed asparagus tonight. That salad sounds delicious! I'll have to remember this one! (yes, I remember tomato/basil being a go-to topping on my pizzas once apon a time! :D)
