Ohh, I love that Pu'erh cake, looks like good stuff. I'm almost out of the 1980, I might have to get another little bag. Besides the dried date taste, it also has a slight taste of sandalwood. It adds a really nice taste. I haven't been doing much cooking lately but I did make mamaliga (polenta) in the crockpot and had it with chicken and gravy today. Yum! And I've made another batch of kimchi, I only have one small jar left. I used red cabbage this time. It looks so pretty in the jars. And I'm trying to ferment one jar of fennel, we'll see how that turns out. I want to try a few other veggies, like kohlrabi and sunchokes. As soon as I can find them, they're on and off here. I put fresh chopped garlic and chili paste into this batch.
What do you know Lucy, Sunchokes and Kohlrabi! (-; Peeling the 'chokes... Peeled chokes 'n kohlrabi All in the jar with garlic, green onions and cayenne pepper tossed in. Fermenting on top of the fridge, I let it go 5 days It came out really good, if possibly a little over-fermented, lol, very tangy! I added some fish sauce and olive oil, which really augmented the flavor. Hot, tangy and savory pickles!
Your ears must have been burning! It's looking good. Ever consider trying asparagus? Bet that would be good, especially the usually useless woodier stems. They would probably soften up nicely. My fennel and red cabbage is still doing its thing. Takes longer in the cooler temps. I made a pot of pinto beans. I put bay leaves and fresh garlic in the pot with them. It smelled like sausages cooking on the stove! I just can't eat canned beans anymore after making my own from dried. I also made a wild rice blend. I'm really liking the Japonica rice. Love the taste and texture.
I am now making curried chcken...using curry powder, ginger, turmeric, cinammon, garlic, and will add brown rice and peas.....with mango chutney. The house smells out of this world again with the curried Indian aroma.....perfect fragrance and food for today and tomorrow with 18 inches of snow projected to come at some point tomorrow....
ok, tomorrow night, I promise, I will share a photo. I could only sample it tonight.....as it is tomorrow's main supper.....I may be stuck indoors all day tomorrow.....and maybe even lose electricty again......with that much snow...at least got the generator back in in tip top shape, if we do lose power here.......
I made Montreal smoked meat poutine today. I bake the "fries", then cut up some cheese (medium white cheddar here) into small pieces (traditionally it's cheese curds, but I find them too salty) then add the hot Montreal smoked meat and brown gravy. I added white mushrooms too. And I had a side of the new batch of kimchi (with the red cabbage). Good combo! Pics for Thep, I don't want to be sent to stand in the corner! baked fries cheese cubes Et voila! Poutine à la Montreal smoked meat.
