I liked going up to the mountain park outside of New Paltz, but not into the actual park...I found this place off the side of the road, there were lots of neat little waterfalls. I made a little music video of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5aAWm_Y8YQ
I took a workshop with Rob Wandell at one of the festivals I spoke at this summer. The way he explained the energy of drumming really clicked with me. I understand my drum better now. I was so wiped out by lyme disease that I didn't attend his other workshops, but I got so much out of the one I did. One of his workshops I missed was Drumming in the Dark. Blindfolded drumming. Really good for people who are self-conscious, have inhibitions with their drums, or who rely too heavily on the visual (like me) which can be misleading in drum circles. He's in Binghamton, I think. Awesome teacher, hope I catch him again at another festival.
That's where I stayed during my NY trip. The lady lives in an A-frame style house on a mountain. Gorgeous.
I lived maybe a 5-minute walk from the old trestle in Rosendale. I used to sneak on there at night, because the guy that "owned" it would block you on there with his truck if he caught you out there at night.
It's green, has awesome skies, has fun cities nearby, it's my birthplace and I don't know if it is because I am very used to the people here, but I just really feel them (although we can be quite different ) if you know what I mean. Oh yes, and I can smoke weed without have to be on my guard. Very used to this and I find it very pleasant and not unimportant I'm afraid.
Often people who have never been to NY only think of it in terms of the Big Apple. You travel about 2 hours outside of NYC and the countryside is every bit as beautiful as anywhere here in TN.
I'd kind of like to be closer to the mountains myself. I have friends in Palenville and Saugerties. Palenville is in Greene county, right smack between two beautiful mountains. It's so pretty there.
I've walked under the bridge, but it makes me dizzy just to look up at it. I can't imagine going up on it! My friend Mikki says people take their bikes up there??? Rosendale is a groovy little town. Have you been to the Rosendale Cafe? Tofu Mushroom Stroganoff! Dammit, now I'm hungry.
Yeah, I practically lived across the street from it (next to the pink and purple monstrosity that pretends to be a pet grooming place.) I never really ate there though, just had some tea from time to time.
I've been through Tennesee once. It was really pretty, these blue, rippled hills with mist all hanging over them. Just passing through, but man, was it gorgeous. The countryside is pretty here, but it actually is full of New Yorkers. My landlords are from New York. Crazy people. Seriously, they think the local hippies are nuts, but the people from New York are just bizarre! I haven't been here long, but the relocated New Yorkers are some of the weirdest people I know. When I moved out here, I looked at a cottage in Kerhonkson. The landlords were locals, but the neighbors were New Yorkers, and the landlords had all these crazy rules to avoid irritating the neighbors, who must have been pretty easily offended. I wanted to ask her, who would you be renting to, them or me? She couldn't understand why no one wanted to rent the cottage. But who'd want to live next to such crazy, needy, demanding and offendable neighbors? Why would anyone put up with that? When I asked her why I should rent somewhere where my kids couldn't have friends over, where I couldn't work from home, where I'd have to keep the shades drawn on one side of the house, all she'd say is, "Well, they're from New York! " SO?!? I might have understood it if they were from say, Transylvania, but come on! That kind of reclusiveness is just creepy. I think the woman should have told them that if they're so offended by the neighborhood then they should just pack it up and go back to the city. Glad I didn't rent from her.
The food there is so-o-o-o-o good! What's that groomer like? My cat needs a natural flea treatment, and I have chemical allergies to consider. Do they sell products there? Do they do cats, or just dogs?
i like it here because its a quaint little town close to a lot interesting places. a little on the quiet side and just very beautiful
I imagine they do cats, but all I ever heard were the dogs...howling and crying lol. I know they sell little pet clothes, I bet they sell other products too.
not much at the moment. despite being surrounded by tons of people i'm lonelier than i've ever been, it seems course this hit me like a ton of bricks earlier today. honestly i think it might be due to the changing seasons. i get a terrible sense of impending doom and despair once fall really starts to set in. that coupled with being more than broke for the next couple weeks is getting to me.
hope you feel better. I get those blues too, only mine come right after Christmas and last until March... where do you live, if you don't mind me asking?
southern indiana, in a nice little college town. i have met plenty of people but i only know one person, really, and i dont spend much time with her. theres plenty to like about here, but i'm just feeling down and out. i need to get off here and go study though
