I had just about every gaming console on the market growing up. My dad was into it, and I loved to play too. Only I was never allowed a TV or computer in my room, even as a teenager, so there was no hours upon hours of playing or staying up all night playing. My husband, on the other hand, had a TV and computer in his room and played all day and night and even ended up dropping out of school cause his playing got in the way of sleeping and his sleeping got in the way of going to school. That, and his parents never bothered to monitor is TV or gaming hours or to make sure he was in bed or in school at all. Considering both our experiences, I guess that's where our strict "no TV or computer in the bedroom" rule comes from. He got to induldge and ended up spending a great deal of his childhood in his bedroom. He's disappointed with how he spent much of his teenage years. I pretty much only slept or read in my bedroom and was a very active child, and I couldn't be happier with the rule I hated as a teenager.
the bratz doll is just ridiculous and it teaching the children of the future all the wrong values in life. i refuse to let my child/ren to watch any silly cartoon on t.v i prefer them to watch veggie tales. They have great views and teachings. yeah sure its about god and ll but im not pushing the religion part on my kids i just want them to know that there is a god that is watching over you and that you may or may not pray to him/her in your own way. video games i refuse to let aiden play now or when he is older. his father is addicted to the computer and his video games and will stay up 3 days straight just to finish the game and say that he beat it. i will not let aiden turn out like his father in that aspect. i will however let him on the computer if we get him an educationl type of game.
I forgot. I don't allow "gaming systems." Like many have said, I think they are addictive and draning and accomplish NOTHING. The kids have some games on the computer, but even that has to be monitored. Moon and Sage would play Sims day and night, I think. I gave up Sims when I realized that it was eating up time I just didn't have. Sunshine (20) bought a second hand "system." (I don't know what.) She and her siblings were allowed to play for a short period of time, but only after homework, chores were done, and we were not having family time. Funny thing, as they didn't have it when they were young, they got bored with it after a few months. Now, it just sits there. Moon was telling me a freind of hers, who loves movies like Saw and The Grudge and torture, pain movies is addicted to Grand Theft Auto. I had NO idea how violent this game is. Did you know you can be the criminal (and the criminal is ALWAYS African American, the cops are white) and can kill people, run things over and actually pick up prostitutes and there is a "cheat" where you can grab some of them and rape them? Shit. This is entertainment HOW? Moon thinks it is a waste of time, thank God.
hey maggie, one of the 'weapons' in grand theft auto san andreas is a giant pink dildo that you can wack people in the face with... it's an odd game and one I'm happy to say I've never played. my brother and I had ONE games system when we were young - a sega mega drive II. We had 3 games. I played them for all of 2 months and then got bored. I can't stand computer and video games. I find them incredibly boring.
OMG, it's worse that I thought. SOOOOO glad I don't allow that crap in my house. MY son respects womyn.
