there are things that i want, material and otherwise, but none of them really have anything to do with any one particular day of the year. the main thing i like about the day, or days, immediately before and after, are the smell of pine needles in the cold nippy air, and most people at least, agreeing to want peace, at least until after new years.
the ability to teleport so i don't have to have a car to live in the woods, and the ability to make things invisible so i can build and live in a house that doesn't make code. also an interface that lets me download 3d directly from my head and a local back up copy of my soul, just in case something happens
i want for people to see the irrationality of 'double standards". to stop hating logic, and to stop lying to themselves about doing so. i know this is a simple desire, one a child might hope for. it is a good exercise though, to notice the small simple beauties we hide from ourselves in pursuit of excitement. i wish for people to lose their awe of harm and harmfulness i wish these things just as selfishly as anyone might say altruisticaly, because they are the kind of world i want to live in. and of course, i don't want them just for one holy day of one religion. i wish humanity to be come something the rest of the universe can trust, and not have to view as a potentially contagious disease.
I'll name 3 things ~Crystals and Gemstones. I love them! ~Records ~Aquarium Tank with a lot of fish. I always wanted one inside my room. Anytime I watch fish swimming around it relaxes me. I told my mother this and she said "Okay I'll get you a bunch of Nemo's one day."
i want it to be moved to the winter solstice and be called midwinter's eve. and just be a day of complete mellowness. a day without religious books, or anyone trying to sell you anything. a day on which babies did not cry, and no one went hungry. no gun was fired, even by accident. no cars ran into each other, or were even driven. no one had to hear or see anything they didn't want to. a day when gods remained invisible but friendly and didn't need names, or demand anything a day of cats being friendly and dogs being silent and humans not knowing anger
I apologize, I somehow missed your question. I think religion is a big part of it. I mean, why would we spend money and buy gifts for each other when it's not our birthdays that we are celebrating. It's not about us, we are not celebrating each other or other people, but something greater than ourselves. For us, it is a religious holiday firstly. Sure, gifts are pretty much signs of appreciation, but what's the point for Christmas? We have birthdays and other days for that. I really never minded not getting Christmas presents as a child, neither did my sister. But the annoying thing was going back to school after the holidays. The teacher would ask so what did everyone get for Christmas, and everyone had to say. I never believed in Santa. But then again, my childhood between ages 3 and 6 wasn't your usual childhood in a way, and I think the last thing everyone had on their minds back then was teaching kids to believe in Santa. After that, it was too late lol. So I guess it is a mixture of reasons. But I like it, I like not exchanging gifts for Christmas. These days everyone's first association with Christmas is presents. Sometimes I'm not even sure why people celebrate it. If I wasn't religious I don't think I would.
We didn't do gifts either, the dutch tradition was to give gifts around 5 december, the traditional day when St. Nicolas died. Now a lot of kids get presents 2 times in december Or do not celebrate St. Nicolas. And some still celebrate christmas without gifts I just want snow. An unbearable amount of snow
Ah yes, St.Nicolas! We did that. The whole leaving your boots and finding gifts in them xD xD I don't want snow. Actually, it'd be perfect if it snowed on 23rd, but not before, since I won't be free and I find snow somewhat of a hassle xD Fun fact: Zagreb was voted Best European Christmas Market last year. #promotingtourism #comeandseeus
Ah didn't know that was done at st. Nicolas day in southern Europe too (here they were also stuffed with carrots and other food: ment for st. nicolas' horse when he visited your place at night to bring gifts) But I guess american christmas took that over as well with the socks above the fireplace and all (just like they transformed st. nicolas into santa clause).
I once got such a wrapping but it had a chocolate easter bunny inside No wait... it was the other way around (they probably had too many choco st. nicolas guys left over )
