I don't smoke pot..my best friend of 18 yr does bigtime. She'll be 50 this yr and my kids tell their friends that aunt netta' smokes so get use to it. I prefer my alcohol. I dress how I want, I have taught my kids to be themselves and dress how they want not what the world dictates. I grew up vegetarian and we always had the biggest garden in the neighborhood...learned to survive off what God gave us. I guess I see being a Hippy the same as a biker. If you know true old school bikers we're free spirits and don't care how others see us but we're a tight family.

 

Right-On, BraveSirRubin, we are brother Capricorn's, sometimes very stubborn, a bit hard-headed and reluctant to budge if we think that we’re right….I’ve learned over the years, that I must remain open-minded and let things flow in it’s natural momentum, but sometimes it’s a very difficult endeavor….DDR

I read this entire thread, and enjoyed the whole thing. I can only imagine how repetitious it could have become with everyone just making another list of the characteristics of being a Hippie. OMG This thread has been done so many times, so going a bit beyond the intended topic just enhanced the content, and made it a little more lively.

The above quote by Gardener was the definite turning point in the thread, and was ageist, derogatory, and condescending. Well, one hippie conversation leads to another, and discussing employee communication skills,and the intimacy or lack of it in interpersonal relationships (server and served) is , in my opinion, what real "HIPPIES" do.(introspection) How you relate to others while you are doing a job (restaurant waiter), demonstrates thoughtful consideration for people, and a sense of respect for yourself and others, that DDR was talking about in his original post, so this diversion was not off thread at all, only an elaboration of the theme.

Even if it was off thread, as long as it wasn't a vulgar or viscious, disruptive interjection, it would be more Hippie-like to just go with the flow. Everyday dialogue is like that....We get sidetracked and go off on tangents.

This thread could have been put on "Old Hippies", and then maybe it could have remained more "pure". If you had put in on "Random Thoughts", you would have got an entirely different response, probably 5 more pages of everyones favorite burger joints, and the ups and downs of waiters and waitresses serving them to the highly unpredictable, but always interesting clientele, and it would have had you laughing and smiling, and feeling very hippie-like. Peace and Go with the Flow.!!

 

You’re correct, I became a bit overzealous in trying to protect my baby….I posted this same thread back in 2005 and I guess that it went in the same direction….I need to let go and let it flow in its natural continuance….Thanks for your enlightened perspective….DDR
