yup. but, seriously, seth. say you had no christians in your hometown (ha! i wish that were true for my hhometown soemtimes) but, you felt really drawn to christianity and wanted to learn more about it, what would you do?
the bible's pretty confusing if there is no one to help explain it. Especially if you just open it up at the beginning and start reading. You'll get into Leviticus and give up in disgust, I guarantee it! The internet is a great way to find out information.
what if you didn't know what type of text christian used. pat we are talking about christianity here.
i recommend the NIV Zondervan Study Bible. i DO NOT recommend King James especially among all versions.
i hate the king james version! i think the best thing to have if you want to read the bible is a concordance text.
King James alters many meanings in Hebrew by directly translating words. Sometimes exact translation isnt beneficial to the true meaning. English has to put it into different words in some cases. On the other hand, Yeshua's name is left out several times in significant verses amongst other things. I just wouldnt recommend that version for those who are just starting to read the Holy Bible.
Selassie said liberation before repatriation... i take that to mean liberate one self before coming back to Africa... but then i take none of what anyone says literally... and in my opinion zion is a state of mind that can be achieved even as InI walk amongst the babylonians.
The bible is a book written by men inspired by the divine and edited to perfection over the course of thousands of years. That's what's holy about it, it comes from the soul of man, which is God. Not some gaddam eye in the sky.
I'm with you pypes... What you get spiritually from any text is great, be it King James or King Kong. It all boils down to this: 'Who so ever shall be found without the soul for getting down, shall stand ans face the hounds of hell, and rot inside a corpse's shell...' Jackson 15:11
It was edited with the intent to make Jesus seem divine and have people serve "God". Many passages that made Jesus seem more human than divine were taken out and hidden away or disregarded. If they would of have left those in, christianity would have very little to almost no followers.
