I think you are making a lot of sweeping statements, that you may find would be challenged if you go to the transexual and transgender forum on here and look at the thread on definations.

I know a lot of transexuals, in my community and there are just as many bi and gay transexuals as there are straight in it, after having surgery

I am very aware of the clinical definitions. As a psychologist, I am just stating what we know from research. Since it is listed as a psychiatric disorder, with the only cure being a sex reassignment, we have lots of information about their sexualities. The forum is a small sub group/sample and not a representation of the whole population by any means. It might be that transexuals who have sexuality questions come to the forums.

well that concerns me that a psychologist would make such sweeping statements, and just because you have a qualification, it doesn't mean that you have to agree with whats listed.
clinical definations from reasearch aren't always right (hence has being gay suddenly stopped being an illness)
the forum isn't a representation of the population, however there is a thread in there that lists all the terms that would be seen under the umberalla.
not everyone who is transexual and transgendered wants sex reassignment and it offensive to suggest that it needs to be cured.
when I state community I mean where I live (not as in the forum) the transexuals I know that have had the surgery, find that is a step in the direction of a huge struggle, living ones life after surgery isn't easy, in many ways its like starting life again, thats not to say its wrong, its to say that its niave to think that after surgery everything will be alright.

being gay was listed as a psychiatric disorder, its lucky that society has become a little more open minded, as I certainly don't consider that my sexuality is a mental illness and most transexuals wouldn't consider that they are mentally ill ethier

I didn't think there was anything "sweeping" about my statements. Also, I don't remember giving my personal opinions. You'd have to educate yourself a lot more about why sexuality was taken from the DSM and not gender identity issues to understand that there is no comparison. I'm not going to give my opinion actually, which would probably make this thread a lot longer. :) I was stating research and how people that come to these forums do not represent the whole population of transexuals. I was not intending to offend anyone. Peace.

I've been in a "committed relationship" with another man for 30 years, yet I've always felt that our community's strength has been diffused throughout the years by OURSELVES constantly "labeling" each other. He's gay, she's lesbian, they're transgendered -- and then even further labels -- he's S&M, she's a dyke, she's a lip-stick lesbian, he's a twink, that one's a "preppie," drag-queen, etc. etc. Perhaps, when we all become simply a part of the human race, capable of sexuality -- or not -- perhaps then we'll find a community where we "find our place."
