Nice! My dad used to always tell me he wished he still had some of the cars he had when he was younger.
first car I learned to drive. pontiac 74 grand safari catalina wagon. geezis couldnt parent find an larger car.. it was really fast alone on the road..
ive had too many...i liked many of them for different reasons and cant pick one favourite sidenote i always hated those damn volkswagen and audi when you get a flat tire...its not easy trying to line up a loose rotor and wheel when the jack is sinking into the soft dirt on the side of the road...they should have banned those stupid companies that used wheel bolts instead of studs/nuts
First time I ever drove I was 13 and my parents owned a huge 1980 something conversion van. It was a 5 speed. My dad thought it would be funny to watch me kill it. I took off like I had been driving a manual for years. Never killed it or made it chug. He about shit his pants. I wasn't so graceful on the brakes. Pushed the clutch and brake in at the same speed and almost put him through the windshield. With the exception of 4 years I've driven a manual since i was 15. Who teaches a 13 year old how to drive in a 5 speed conversion van? Idiots.
I wasn't even allowed to drive an automatic until my parents felt I had mastered the manual transmission. I'm glad they decided that.
The first time I drive an automatic was in drivers ed. I said "you just put it in drive and go?" They all thought I had never driven before. After the van I drove my dad's brand new extended cab Ford F150. Again with the huge vehicle also a 5 speed. If I have a choice I will always choose manual. My jeep now is a manual. My husband hates it.
Over here we mainly have manual transmissioned cars. Automatics are for old people and other bad drivers.
Lets see I got my license in 1999. My first car was a 1994 BMW 325ic, black with a tan convertible top. Tan leather interior. Power everything. It was sooooooo sweet. It had a great system too, I used to put the top down and drive blasting Led Zeppelin on windy roads so much fun. I've had 15 or 16 cars though, I enjoyed them all.
70 Trans AM or the 67 442? Hmmm... Maybe the '72 Duster. I donno. I'm pretty satisfied with the HHR I have now, I wouldn't even find fuel to run those guys up there ^^^ these days. (they were all 100+ octane, leaded fuel only engines)
Took my driving test in one of these, '62 Plymouth Belvedere wagon with push button tranny. Called it the "White Wonder" cuz it only had a 2 barrel carb but I could shut down 390 Ford and 327 Chevy 4 barrel sedans with it. Blew the freeze plugs out of it twice drag racing.
I should go get my 65 chevy van back. And I wish I never sold my 55 chevy, last I heard it was in canada and it sold for 30grand That car was fun.
Also cool. I had a 1972 Ford panel van. No windows on the sides. I bought it for $300, drove the shit out of it and never had to fix a thing on it besides the water pump once.
My 5-speed front-wheel-drive Toyota Corolla. It got 35 mpg and could cruise at 80 mph out west in 4rth gear. It could drive in Colorado snowstorms with snow deep enough to cover the headlights, when the only other vehicles out were huge SUVs with chains on their tires. I used to routinely drive alone from Durango to Albuquerque with a baby (1980) and never worry about car trouble.
Those old Corollas really gave Toyota a good name. As you said, they were known for being totally reliable.
