Still in my first house, it's almost paid for.

When we first moved in we had shitty, mismatched, hand-me-down crap. We slept on a futon. It was awful.

We've slowly replaced everything over the years.

Third floor walk up, circa 1920.

Living room: couch previously owned by my old family dog, came complete with fleas. Wooden wire spool for coffee table. Cement blocks and boards from Yamaha XS 650 motorcycle packing crates for book shelves/album stands/TV stand. Quadraphonic stereo system. Small plastic black and white TV. Folding studio chair, wine bottle with melted candle on top.

Bedroom: sleeping bag, set of 4 cardboard drawers, old metal trunk, small wooden wire spool with alarm clock.

Dinning room: some kind of old card table, I think. Old pierced metal folding chairs, three or four.

    That's about it.

My couch is a futon that my fiance's sister left when she moved out (we inherited their childhood home), my computer chair is a broken recliner that has definitely seen better days. The other computer chair is a nice armchair that I got when my grandma passed away, it spins. :D We have an old ugly armchair, a lamp that I think looks pretty cool, an old piano for a TV stand and a piano bench for my flat-screen monitor. Most of our furniture was left here when the in-laws moved out.

I'm definitely not a hoarder, but I actually really enjoy used furniture and household items that I either like or want to revamp.

The only things I bought new is my couch (I have this strange thing about buying fabric items used for some reason), my washer & dryer (can't pass up a good deal!), one of those wooden Amish fireplaces, and our desks - those I bought new but this particle board shit...nothing of quality.

I got an Ethan Allen coffee table for FREE from freecycle. I also got 2 awesome matching stand-up lamps that way.

I got another amazing Pottery Barn coffee table from Craigslist a few years ago for next to nothing.

I also shop flea markets/thrift stores when I'm looking for special things or just anything for my house. I got an awesome hutch and sewing desk for dirt cheap from a flea market a few years back.

I just love used stuff. My house looks like garbage now, but I have faith that one day, I can make every single used thing in this house look amazing :D

I almost forgot to mention the fucking aaaawwwwesome mattress and box springs the in-laws gave us years ago. They were in almost brand-new condition, that year they had bought a new bed but then both got raises, so they gave us their new bed and bought what they really wanted. It's seriously the most comfortable thing I have ever slept on. Please don't remind me of things grown-up people do in beds, I'd like to think I got it in pristine shape. :ack2:

OMG I have my in-laws bed, too. (well they gave it to Bryan and I don't wanna think about what HE did in that bed before me :D ) and its comfy as fuck!

Its one of those huge beds though, the bedframe is connected to this giant contraption of pillars, drawers underneath, and a shelved headboard. Although it is very convenient, it takes up way too much space.

I'm hoping as an official "wedding gift" for each other, we can get a gorgeous new bedroom set made of solid woods...when we can afford that, who knows

    :)

Sounds kind of similar to my first place except for the bedroom suit I had.

i'm kind of the same way. i'll take fabric hand-me-downs, but only if i know who they're coming from, and i still feel kind of iffy about it for a while until i get used to it. wooden furniture, i'll take out of the dumpster.

I'm the same way too. i had a hand-me-down couch from my mom but it was dirty from her dog laying on it and it really bothered me...I never sat on it. I spent weeks looking through craigslist ads for used furniture because I couldn't really afford anything new but I couldn't stand that damn couch anymore. But every single picture on craigslist made me want to throw up a little bit...there is just something so damn icky about obviously used furniture.

I finally found my current sofa at goodwill. its probably old as the hills but it looks like it sat in some old lady's living room covered in plastic and sprayed with scotch guard. I can't really stand the fabric design but it was the only couch I found that didn't gross me out.

its also made with some weird material that doesn't indent...it just returns to its original form as soon as you get up so there's never any ass prints. I'm kind of weird about that too.

And now I'm hung over in my mismatched house. Uggggh. And my dad is across the room talking obnoxiously, as only an ex Meth shooting, full blood German can do. Go back to your house dad, and your android with me.
    Lol.
