As for the developing world I can see your reasoning but I think the issue is more complicated than sex drive. As for overpopulation causing the end of man, it may be the primary cause but not the thing that finishes us off.

I'm slightly worried about Organized Religion, because it's immune to reason in alotta ways thanks to the faith trump card, and the fact that they have brainwashed so many people into thinking it's a good thing.

I'm very worried about the merger of Capitalism and Genetic Engineering and some type of split in the species because of the possibility that the rich might get access to so many advantages before the poor that it will be noticeable enough to change mating habits drastically / permanently.

However, I'm very very optimistic about our future. I think the biggest trials are behind us honestly. Our quality of life has progressed steadily over time and recently has begun ramping up exponentially. Science has a stronger hold than ever, and science doesn't backslide.

 

I'm with ya. One of my greatest fears is that it will dramatically gain more power/influence than it already has.

 

Meh we've been beating that shit back for centuries. It's been changing it's positions constantly in the face of logic for a while now whenever church officials start feeling retarded by being proven wrong beyond a shadow of a doubt. I think the main problem is it's almost impossible to eradicate, and it gives extremists extremely old books that they can flip through to find passages that justify their positions no matter how sadistic they happen to be. There's alot of dumb shit in there open to missinterpretation. The books aren't being updated, they're still being used as a moral compass and they were written in the bronze age.

I really like the fact that you notice the problem though, and I think this was a great idea for a thread.

Do we not live in a secular society? Are not church and state more separated than they ever have been in history (except perhaps under communist rule)? Are we not substantially more enlightened than our traditionalist, indian massacring, hypocritical, unscientific, greedy and most importantly god fearing, ancestors? Are not the majority of muslims and christians reasonable people?

People want to believe in easily definable demons, not complex and tangible facts.

Somehow, even after a history of several bloody millenia, our kind still doesn't understand that war and murder are pointless and dumb.

And then there are millions, probably hundreds of millions, of people who sacrifice our paradise in their never-ending quest for profit.

I agree. We have come a far way. But still there is more improving to be done-there always is. How many of our politicians are christians? They are the people running our society.

 

No, we treat war like any other business. We do it fiscally and with damage control. Perhaps there is some sort of threat from nations like Russia, but if they're smart they'll adopt America's capitalistic war model.

A politician can be a christian and an ethical human being. Yes, there may be improving to do, but the idea that organized religion is a threat to humanity is a joke. Disorganized science, maybe, but religion no.

All religions indoctrinate children as the main method of recruitment. Kids are labeled as Muslims or Christians before they are able to speak or think. The penalty in the Qur'an for apostasy (leaving religion) is death. Many Muslims take this very seriously. How do you explain so many followers of Islam blowing themselves up based on their belief of the metaphysics of martyrdom without religion? Why do authors of literature criticizing the unjust treatment of women by Islam need to fear for their lives for using their right to free speech?

As of right now in the U.S. you need to pretend to be Christian to be elected into office. So many incredibly intelligent people are excluded from leadership based on this fact. Intelligent Design is still being taught in many parts of the U.S. The Catholic Church is still preaching the sins of condom use in Sub-Saharan Africa. I sincerely hope these things deeply trouble you, and they're all impossible without religion.
