I would find old motorcycles for travel. Because of gas milage but also because as the hoards of suburbanites run out of gas on the freeways leaving town, the roads will become littered with abandoned cars. I'd gather any and all supplies that I could and head as far away from the cities as I could.

I've watched enough 'Survivorman' episodes to where I think I would be able to pull it off lol

If you're focusing on the small picture that it would be a great tragedy. But if you look at the big picture, what comes after the tragedy would be a fresh new world without all the Bullshit that we don't need. The figurative 'flood' will wash away all the bullshit and we could start anew. I think that sounds wonderful!

Well If the world goes to shit I’ve got a great refuge to retreat to as long as someone else doesn’t beat me to it :(

Believe it or not a large number of people will simply choose to kill themselves rather than deal with the muliplicity of issues involving their survival and their families

  5. I'll probably just bust out my weed stash and smoke a fatty then head over to my dealers house and buy his stash and then sit around reading books smoking pot

I would smash my electric guitar and start playing my acoustic guitar, then roll up another one :D

what lights are we refurring to and in what context? when i'm tired and don't have to be doing some other things, i sleep or rest. with or without lights, but preferably without the sound of the human voice.

ah, you mean like the power going down and not coming back up? well i've lived where it did that for weeks at a time every winter. it takes a lot of social organization to keep infrastructure we're familiar with and take for granted going. so there's no reason to take for granted it won't someday happen.

well if nobody had loud stereos, or i could live far enough away from them, and i'm guessing there's be no one stopping me from living form doing so. i'd just go to sleep when it gets dark and wake up in the morning, or let my eyes adjust to the dark, and walk around in the woods with the other nocturnals, without trying to read a book out there or anything.

i don't know about the e.m.p. scenario, i mean i know there is such a thing, known about it since it was first discussed in the 80s. i don't think that's the most likely thing to happen. but there could be too many people get too sick and too many of them die, to keep the power grid going or something like that. wouldn't be like over night, except to people who weren't paying attention, or were already cut off from being able to.

i did have a dream in which that happened a number of years ago. people were eating a lot of peanut butter sandwedges, not having refrigeration to keep meat from rotting.

in the dream the cars had all turned to rust overnight too. but that was in the dream world where things can happen like that. they'll happen here too, but not that all at once of a sudden.

Eat a tuna sandwich and watch helpless people cry over the loss of their handheld toys.

The loss of technology in itself isn't that big of a deal. Humans do not need smart phones to exist. Whats fucked up is that the loss of electronics today would bring upon us the same type of chaios as a zombie apocolypse. Society has become so freaking stupid that they need the internet to tell them how to change a light bulb. Take away all of my electronics thats fine, I can live happily......But the rest of the sheeple would go freaking crazy and make it a million times harder than it would have to be

I don't think this is true. Sure, when the net goes down people go crazy, but they will adapt quickly. I doubt you'll be missing facebook after a month without it, even if you previously used it hourly. Also if we're talking an apocalyptic situation, I think we'd have other things to worry about.

I understand your point and don't entirely disagree with it... technology is an addiction to many folks- but the sustained chaos would arguably be a product of the inability to function on the part of corporate agriculture that is likely necessary to support the overpopulation of people. I suspect that we've worked our numbers up to a point where the planet itself would be incapable of supporting us once the lights went out. One ironic thing about that is what so many couples would do once the lights did go out- and the ensuing baby boom to follow.

The population is being preconditioned to what is going to happen.

All these Zombie movies and video games, gets people used to seeing humans as subhuman, and removes the inhibitions against killing other people. The psychology behind these games is insidious and dangerous. And to think that children spend hundreds of hours playing such games.

Pretty frightening to realize what kind of generation they have created...

I can just see the "zombie killers" on the rampage thru our cities, killing everyone who can't defend themselves. It'll be "fun" for them, no doubt. They'll probably award themselves badges for killing the most people.

Once people's innate inhibitions against violence are gone, you are left with the likes of Hitler's SS, who had their humanity conditioned out of them. They are like the Borg. Resistance will be futile, no?

Which kills us all by radiation poisoning.:2thumbsup:

I like the "nothing, business as usual" replies, but get real.

If there's a human-caused EMP, either the US is in a full scale globe-destroying nuclear war, or there's been a tactical use of EMP(s) in preperation for a conventional war (but with world war 1 esque brutality and disragard for life, like nerve agents, etc), probably with china. (because either nation could use an EMP, without triggering the globe's destruction-they won't choose to throw it all away, (read: the power they currently hold) just because of a power outage.

So, either we'll all die, or have to survive a full on groundwar. And then there's those of us who need medication and electricity to survive at all.

Also, lots of electronics can survive an EMP. It would seriously screw with lots of stuff, but meh.... time to bust out the vaccum tubes and generator.

OH NO! Not BOILED cowboy coffee! The horrors we'll have to endure!

At least as long as the coffee lasts... There won't be more coming in from So. America anytime soon...

If you don't have a lot of money saved, and you want to be able to trade something of value for food, etc., the best thing to do is stock up on stuff that will become scarce in the future. Imported stuff that doesn't grow in the US.

    Like:
    Coffee
    Sugar
    Chocolate

Those things will be in high demand in short order. If you have a lot stored, you can barter with them. They will become very valuable, very fast.

I suggest hiding them in caches somewhere in waterproof containers.

So when your food stash runs out, go around the neighborhood and offer them these items. You'll be very popular and can probably survive as long as you still have a stash of these items.

Obviously there are other items that can get scarce such as fuel and medicines.

I bet after a year of people doing without, something as simple as a chocolate bar can probably buy food and shelter for a week. Whereas all the gold you have won't get you shit.
