True, That and the fact grandpa didn't get his money by sleeping in from drinking too late into the night. Pretty much you will have the life and money the grandparents have or better if the time and effort was put in. Since you quoted me e7m8, the couch thing means some who are down find relief and then dwell on it when they should get it happening and avoid the pity friend thing that seems to keep some down then they never progress.

And if I sound like my own pity kicked in there to you you would be wrong. I sent myself out there to survive by leaving my hubby in Ontario and moving to BC having absolutely no idea what was there for me. We split on good terms but I had an adventure I needed to go to. Some cash but not much because we weren't divorced yet and had to wait a year for the settlement and I wasn't gonna hang around and slow him down nor did he want to drag it out either on me and since he held the mortgage I just said "Fetch us a dual lawyer and let me know when it's all done", because we didn't have anything we wanted to fight over. I took what I could throw on a Puralator and some luggage and left him the rest because it was baggage I didn't want. I never mentioned this before but I came to a promise land with nine guys, (friends) once here we all split to find work and there are two of us left here, the rest headed back to get their old jobs back.
A hard time? Yup, expectedly so but not a bad time. It was a year of living off daily short jobs that kept me fed and gave me gas now and then till I was able to find full time work. I really had a blast. It was my trip to find Me and I did it. Then my settlement came in about a year later, a nice bunch of cash and I bought a store and ran that from the bottom to an awesome, well supplied highway store, then sold it after four years because I had enough of being my own boss. Yup, by then I had work and some savings and the store just happened on luck and timing. Do I regret it? Na, not one bit, I met many awesome people in my shoes during that time and in the end I am set now with my very own stuff, an interesting story while being very self sufficient and secure.
Those were things I needed to do, it was my dream as a kid to live off the land in a wagon of some kind and would I do it again? You bet I would.
When I go camping with nearly nothing but fire and fire, I wish I could stay forever and this will happen when I retire. My dream is to liquidate everything into cash, buy a trusty machine and travel till I can't anymore and need to settle in a retirement home, with a BF, hubby or what ever if that's how it is by then, or even by myself, who knows what cards will play by then but my homeless adventure is something that I will always remember.

 

Make a lot of money on your own terms. In this case, working hard in (legal) niche markets and investments.

Just gonna jump in here with a few comments. The couch thing is fine as a temporary thing if people use it as a stepping stone to... okay, I have a place to stay for a few weeks and now I need to find a job and my own place (with or without roommates, whatever)... Yea, I crashed at other people's places for a bit but I was also happy to NOT have to do that and get on with having my own place. It can def be very beneficial when someone will help you out....but on the flip side--I have def seen people who take advantage of the kind people willing to lend a helping hand (and couch)... I have seen this a few times first hand in my willingness in the past (due to my own experiences and giving back) to help people out and give people a temp. place to stay... So, I have seen numerous times people who say they need a place to stay for a couple weeks to a month and will be looking for a job, place to stay, room mates, whatever...and a month passes and then two and they aren't doing anything BUT sitting on my couch.



And btw... a thug is a thug. In my world, growing up and all, a thug is a thug whether black or white if they are typically a wannabe gangster.
