What's Happening?

Maybe its about 'owning' it. Like certain black people try to do with the N word.

 

yeah, sounds pretty much the same as all the people around the rest of the country who proudly display their american flags.

 

Especially that part about lower class people glorifying their national past reminded me about old russians reflecting on the USSR. Yeah, when you don't know or care about the whole picture, and go only by your own or your older family members recollections and portrayals both living in the American south and Russia under Stalin can truly seem better. Less luxury perhaps, but more certainties. People love certainties.

 

I thought this thread was open to any array of discussion. I didn't realize there were limitations, but then again, I have followed it only sporadically.

But to stick to light conversation:

The weather here has been gray and raining forever, so it seems. We had a few sunny breakout days where the temperatures were warm enough for shorts, but those days were fleeting. I miss the sun.

 

Hey, (hehe speaking of Americans) my friend from Europe (Luxembourg) and her sister are doing their bachelor thesis for English and are looking for Americans (and Luxembourgers, not sure if any are on this site though) to fill out a survey. It's a simple multiple choice (well, one or the other) that only takes about 5 minutes and you just pick which way you say a phrase or sentence (it's basically sentence syntax. no wrong answers). So, admin, can I make a separate thread for this to get folks to help out my friends?? Or if any here are interested...I think we have a few Americans, right? Well, just tag me and let me know...yeah, I think a separate thread would be best, if this is cool with the admin. yay? or nay?

Sorry, I did not intend to spark a political discussion in here.

I was posting about a local event in my town.

I posted the flag pics for Irmi because I know she likes them.


I really, really don't want political discussions in here.


We had some thunderstorms today which made me feel lazy, I think.

At any rate I cooked a decent dinner and I've got clothes in the wash.

Tomorrow begins Summer break for the grandkids which mean we get to spend long days with them.

 

It's true, I do like the confederate flag but I don't associate it with anything that Americans associate with, mainly for reasons I explained a page beforehand and that, after research I've found out that 13 stars on a crossed flag only meant to ever represent the 13 states of the confederacy.

So to me the confederacy was almost like it's own small nations and that was its nations colors and flag, their countries flag, the confederate flag.

13 stars on a cross doesn't really shout out much to me, I get why the swastika would to most people, but not 13 stars. And each confederate state had its own laws and agendas, can you really encompass that whole nation let's say, as a hate mongering nation? Nahhh I don't believe 100% of the people in those states fought for slavery, and I don't believe the ones that didn't, still didn't fly the flag because they deemed it racist. They probably had the flag flying for the proudness of where they lived and where they came from.

Pretty much like Aeri said about the picture. Heritage related.

Many people right now are ashamed of being American because of the president etc. but they still show passion and stand by their flag. But it's got to be different with the confederate flag don't it? You can't possibly have the same scenario. Even though it kinda is and probably is to an awful lot of people.

 

There's a saying that "People will make of things exactly what they want to."

It's kind of like the saying "You're only as happy as you decide to be."

Ohhh I agree Aeri I mean one of our members here last week accused me of quite a bit and I honestly, probably for the first time online I felt disheartened by what somebody actually thought of me.

And he even admitted he could be totally wrong and reading everything the wrong way but like you said Aeri, their mind is already made.

Now I've said a hundred times I'm a very black humor sarcastic type of person, I type my posts like I'm saying them, with the commas and dot dot dots for pauses. And people get it and they're the ones that say I'm witty and having fun and a clown etc. the people that I get along with and then there's the other who don't read it in the same context. They're like dude did you really just say that? Well you said it so you must have meant it. And anybody that knows me should know I don't mean a lot of stuff I actually say I'm just having a little sarcastic fun or taking the piss out of someone or something.. because it's fun. That's my fun, that's my comedy and sense of humor.

So for someone to say that im a terrible person and that I'm not mature and have a lot of growing to do, I'm just like, okay.. that's fine entitled to your opinions. But if they're going to take everything to heart on an online forum and then conceive these little thoughts about someone they don't even know and admittedly won't get to know because they believe everything this person writes then maybe just perhaps, I'm not the only one that needs to grow up. =|

There's two people on this site that go out of their way to ignore me and that's fine, with the hypocrisy and all, they're about as mature as I am in that regard. Lol.

And that's the other thing too for all the hate I get and out of all the people that don't like me, I've never stooped to that level, I still give everyone the same credit and respect, even though we don't gel, it doesn't mean I think they're a bad person we just don't get along. I don't like everyone and I'd feel a little uncomfortable if everybody liked me.

Honestly I'll toot my horn here, I know I'm a lot more mature than some others even if I do have a warped sense or reality and humor.

Good god today was hot and humid. It felt like I was in the deep south again.

 

I spoke to my boss about the fishing idea and he asked me what kind of fish do we have here. And I said I don't know. then he asks what's the number one thing we have going for us at the hostel? I said cheap drinks? Bingo.

Do fisherman drink? He asks.

Well I know I do. =p

Well then, I think it could be a good idea to advertise for recreational fishing adventures.



So that's more work for me to figure it all out I doubt it'll come to fruition this summer but next year could be set in stone. That should make them happier because summer is our slow season.

Gah! I've really mellowed out though! Irmi, you shoulda seen me last year! You shoulda seen me when...(oh yeah, I haven't brought that up really yet on this site.) I'm quite a fangirl about something...something(s) actually, but I didn't really see much enthusiasm for it or them here...until recently!! (well, one of the things anyway.) haha! I'm not too sure if I should admit it though! ah crap! Bet you all could figure it out in 3 guesses though! eek!
