I've been reading about the proper way to put a baby to sleep (since the baby died in our neighborhood).

It's a wonder any of us ever lived.

You are supposed to put a baby to bed, in it's own crib, on it's back, with no blankets or pillows.

I had a hard time explaining this to my mom when my son was born. She was horrified I didnt use crib bumpers or blankets

But I remember rolling around in the back of her car without a seatbelt on so what does she know :p

I grew up under Dr. Denmark's care and I was raised, as I raised my babies and grandbabies, sleeping on the tummy.

I switched to co sleeping when he was 5 months old because I was exhausted and tired of getting in and out of bed all night

Which is a big no no but I was terrified of SIDS and did a lot of reading on it and the risk of co sleeping seems to be linked to breast feeding, or the lack of it rather. third world countries commonly breastfeed and cosleep and have a lower rate of SIDs than we do. So i felt confortable with it.

But the rate of SIDS was cut in half after the guidelines changed to back sleeping with no blankets or pillows, so I do think there's something to it.
