(looks at my shiny new 5 gallon bucket full of freshly rinsed hatch chilies) some migrants were going past the roommate's c-store last night, and as part of their pay, they got to pick over the fields for culls, so they had almost 2k pounds of these peppers. sold the roommate a bucket's worth for 25$ (and they stacked em in the bucket, so got nearly 40 pounds of peppers)

for being culls, they're not in bad shape, either. only found one 'bad' pepper, the rest are all firm, just a lot of them are running more to red, which doesn't bother me none. gonna smoke some, smoke and dry some others, chop some down to freeze, and make some jars of salsa verde. gonna keep a few of the big red ones, stuff em with sausage and cream cheese, wrap em in bacon, and smoke em up for munching.
