I'd totally kick those CEO's asses if given the chance.
They're not just mean to the animals, but to the workers too, who are almost always illegal immigrants.
And veggies are growin, so we're making a little difference. We just gotta keep on truckin'.

if vet and medical students can't study a carcass, how are they going to learn about their patients? medical students training to be doctors work with human cadavers... i supposed dissection could be justified better if all the creatures died at their due time, as with humans, but to ban it isn't really practical for the sake of the students.

many vets go into that business solely because they truly love animals and want to help them. protesting their studies seems a lot like barking up the wrong tree. do what you want, but yeah. the beauty of free speech, eh?

i would like to just throw it out there that the OP just wanted to light a fire in some people, and it worked.

i've been a vegetarian for 6 years, and honestly, i was 15 when i started and i didn't know shit about the world. i probably started because it was cool, i thought i was an animal rights warrior, and i wanted to piss off my dad. NOW, i am still a vegetarian because meat smells like shit; it's dead, and that freaks me out that it used to MOVE, that thing was a muscle on a creature and it used to run, whoa.; and i prefer vegetables to anything else. they're so light and pure feeling and i don't feel like crap after eating them.

i understand animal rights, and support them, to an extent. there are certainly exceptions to a lot of vegan opinions, such as medical research. the thing that really, truly bothers me about the meat industry, especially in North America, is that it is a goddamn super power and there's no stopping it. The majority of the meat industry here is dominated by several companies that don't give two shits about quality of life, quality of product, or what they are doing to the environment, they just care about money.

On top of that, there are so many people here that are brainwashed by food - and not just by meat. It's really so sad that so much of society is enslaved to high fructose corn syrup and fried goods. These companies have little to no obligation to fulfill any of your nutritional needs with their food, it's so sci-fi when you really get into how some shit is made.

My point is that people's eyes are beginning to open up to the fact that our world is sick, our people are sick, and yes there are a lot of factors that go into both, but a major slice of the pie is the food industry and their malpractices.

By being a vegetarian of a vegan and respecting the decisions of others, you create a higher ground for others to aspire to. You become a wealth of knowledge, a being who knows what is up but doesn't push it on others. Maybe one day the OP will understand that having a god damn tantrum about the problems of the world isn't going to change a fucking thing. Being a living, breathing, walking, and sometimes, talking, example will. I know for a fact that I have at least two friends who have attempted to go veggie because of me, and one of them has kept it up for 2 years now. THAT's progress.

as for the term 'hipster', embrace it. everyone conforms, even if you're conforming to NOT conforming, and hipsters are just another style-tribe on the spectrum. not that they're not hilarious, because they are, but at least they're trying to figure themselves out.

sorry for the rant, but after all that's what we're all on here for, is it not?

Newleaf- i think you two agree on disection IN premed-pre vet cores.
The campaign was for non-medical bio science (if I read it correctly, and I'm pre caffeine, so it could go either way. :) )
Just so, it is an excellent rant!

So the op is MIA. I'd love to have my questions/challenges answered.
