I like floyd better than zeppelin because I feel that floyd had more emotion and power behind their musical pieces. floyd made musical pieces (works of art), zeppelin made songs. I do like zeppelin though; but I like floyd more.

As far as jam bands go the best of the best is the GRATEFUL DEAD. I still can not fathom how some people can look me in the eye and say the Dead sucks... I wonder if their ears are functioning properly. I guess some people can't understand things that are above their level of comprehension.

Well put aliced. To me floyd live is as good as it gets. Your standing up all the time pumped with all sorts of emotions that arent nessarally from the drugs your on. Ive never really gotten into Greatful dead though. I havent heard much of it, because i didnt grow up listening to it.

I am soooo with you man! The solo on High Hopes! I literally cry almost everytime I hear it. Easily my favorite solo of all time.

As far as "drug music" goes, I really like frank zappa. I mean zappa's compositions blow pink floyd out of the water. Hes one of the only musicians who can make a xylophone rock out. I love the whole mixed up almost cartoonish sounds, theyre so obscure, but at the same time have real depth. every section takes on its own emotions and moves me in a different way. I dont think Frank even used psychedelics, but his music seems to be tailor made for the experience. I do like Jimi and the dead, but they only blow my mind when Im stoned.

    My thoughts exactly :D
But the question really comes down to, at least for me, which band is tapping into more psychedelic energy, Led Zepplin with the Rain Song, or Pink Floyd with Narrow Way 1,2,&3?
Now that is a question that can never be answered :)
    Namaste

Nah I do, I love all kinds of music. But Lightning Bolt to me is just plenty of years ahead of the average comprehension abilities of most us human beings. True, the name is proper considering the sound of the band is much like being electrocuted, and they are just drum and bass, but to me there is beautiful meoldy behind the noise, like those pictures that look like colourful static but when you focus properly you see the image hidden behind it all :D

that's pretty crazy, b/c when I was listening I didn't realize that they were only drum and bass. I could have sworn I heard more than that.
