I'm in a train. Can't play the vid now..! Saruman turned from 'the white' wizard into Saruman of many colours. Gandalf turned from Gandalf the grey into Gandalf the white.. without becoming Saruman the white in any way
There are a few discussions about it on reddit, stack exchange, and Quora! I thought it was weird too. It was in the extended version. I don't watch the extended version anymore because myself because the extra included scenes ruin the whole thing for me.
Your quote already makes it clear imo: So when Gandalf turned from grey to white he became the white wizard: which Saruman was supposed to be, but he changed. Gandalf became what Saruman was supposed to be.

When I saw them intially, I thought the same thing. I watched it again somewhat recently and the drop off didn't seem as bad as I remembered. The whole concept of it is quite mindblowing to say the least.
At least a few of the comments that I found on other sites seem to have that theory. I never read any Tolkien, so I don't even know if the quote is what Tolkien wrote; I just know it's in the movie. The only person that I knew personally, that knew Tolkien's works inside/out and could have given me some insight, died this past year.
There was a rumor Bambi Woods died of AIDS/HIV back in 1986 from swallowing to much man juice. Not sure if its true
