You dig so deep, what it is you wish to find? I am trying to be friendly and nice here! I used 'assumption' because it was non-threatening, rather than state my opinion as absolute fact. Or is your argument to battle semantics with me? What do you seek with this? How has this place changed? You can't just dread your hair however you want, shrug off responsibility for your lack of information and imply it's everyone else's fault? If so, good. See what I did there? I only ask that you not be so quick to point the finger. Maybe also to see where I'm coming from, here? Nah, I suspect it was my "just because some popular rock band" comment that offended you. People are often attached to their favorite music. My apologies~
I'm not sure anyone in my fave bands has dreads actually...never thought about it. Yeh semantics end up playing a bigger part than normal when tone of voice isn't carried by a medium. Why would I deem you a witless dolt when I don't even know you?? Quit with the assumptions.
Haaaa Im not going anywhere luvs!!!! So if I am getting this right we have to be fat, failing school, about to slit our wrists, and have pending court dates in order to be worthy of dreads?????? pfffffffftttttttt!
OMG callie... seriously you better never leave this place... EVER! And it was a seriously awesome compliment... especially for someone who still feels in the same place as back when the dread were first born (proud as hell, but keeping them hidden away until they mature)
What the hell is this even supposed to mean? Actually, you CAN dread your hair however you would like to. You can use wax or backcomb or let it tangle on it's own. You can even go as far as to do something crazy like throw in some random condiments from your refrigerator and sing the alphabet backwards every night while gargling grapefruit juice if you thought it would help. And guess what? It's not a crime! I agree with others who say that the elitism here is nauseating, especially when most of the elite dreadheads are self-identifying hippies. Please. And the second part of your statement is what is truly confusing me. I have never seen anyone here blame "everyone else" (who exactly is everyone else, by the way?) for their own decisions when it comes to getting locks. And not everyone who chooses to dread for different reasons than you deem appropriate did so because they're dumb and didn't research first. THAT'S the attitude around here that is so off-putting; anyone who dreads differently from you is a moron, obviously didn't research beforehand and made a huge mistake. It really grates the nerves, man.
I get the feeling that I'm stepping into a warzone. but anyway, the idea of growing my dreads has been in my head for quite some time, just from seeing people about town, on the trains and buses and whatnot, but it's been in my head even more so since I began posting here. honestly, I think the one person who made me want them most was our very own NakedTreeHugger, who is a gorgeous, gorgeous mama, with her dreads before and without them now :] I'm loving the process, loving waking up in the morning and seeing progress and then just going about my day. my dreads are going to be beautiful, and yours all are as well. I have so much love for them. :]
If someone puts wax into their hair, they have been misinformed. If they researched a bit more they would have found out wax is harmful. Please do not take it personally offensive, that is not my intent. We all know wax is harmful- and even if you've used it, accept the error for what it is and learn from it. I said 'on a whim' because I do not think it is that difficult to find the right info. It is not some ultra secret, it is not entirely hidden from you (you're posting here, aren't you?). I started out knowing nothing of dreads, I heard of many false ways. Though here and nearly every other forum seemed to share the same consensus regarding wax. Such hurtful language. Please refrain, I have said nothing to you to deserve this kind of treatment.
It is a joke. Playful banter and should not be taken at face value. Read the amybird quote above it to better understand Aye~ You would brand me an elitist, one who does not accept different beliefs; Yet you turn around and say that my belief is wrong? I did do battle with elitists here before (my definition; these guys said natural or nothing- one even began to say bronner's wasn't legit) and I would hardly classify myself in this category. I am not against backcombing, crochetting, felting, whatever you'd like to do- but it has become blatantly apparent that wax is harmful. Was referring to how people said it wasn't their fault because of all the misinformation. Which is true, to an extent, but good advice and tips were available- they just didn't find it. I didn't question their reasons for having dreadlocks. I did not intend to insinuate that anyone was dumb either. Just that perhaps in their excitement and haste, they did not gather as much info as they could have (or looked to the right places, I should say).
It sounds to me like either everyone is out to get Tzee or he thinks everyones out to get him, hold on let me call up my friend with the bat...
Look, whether you meant to or not, you began by appearing to belittle the motives of those who were inspired by an artist. You then suggested that many jumped in on a whim. In fact I had thought this was directed at me because all I stated was that I realised I wanted dreads a very short time before getting them. I could have added a great deal of personal info there but I chose not to; not because I wouldn't want to share it with anyone here, but because the public nature of this forum means that people who do know me who I deliberately choose not to confide in may happen upon it. Later I think you just misused the word whim. If someone spends a year researching something, regardless of the quality of the research or the available information, it cannot by definition be a decision made on a whim. It might be a poorly-researched or misinformed decision, but it is not whimsical. That's it. That's all I meant.
I will and do what I want. I am not some silly little naive girl that didn't know any better. I did begin with wax and I have said it a thousand times and I will repeat it, Wax did not ruin my locks, I don't regret how I began, and if I did start all over (even with all the info that I do have now) I would probably use the same method because it did work for me. No matter how many others try to convince me otherwise. I do believe that some folks did over use wax and in return are blaming the manufactures..but that is just another debate I dont want to get in to. In the end guess what..we all will have locks and Im afraid that yours will be no better than mine no matter what method you chose. I am happy! So sorry, but I am
Lol Callie if you ever do find a shitload of wax in your dreads in 4 years and have to cut them off, the post you write that day is gonna be a funny one
yeah it would..but ya know what being the bitch I am I probably wouldn't tell ya Im annoyed now that this wonderful thread has been tainted with" mine is better than yours" narcissistic bullshit Bothers me more the idea that the only musicians that can "appropriately" have dreads have to be bare foot and dancing around in a damn circle whispering to trees. Has it really ever occurred to anyone that their stage persona's are dramatically different than their real lives ?????????? A Lot of working musicians I know locally play totally different music than what they really feel, because if you are a working musician you do what you have to to pay the bills. Sad but true.
Sorry if I had a hand in that...I feel kinda bad about it, but I just wasn't comfortable with the derogatory tone towards others' dready choices. I'm sure the thread will get back on track soon
