Yeah. I don't know what it would be like, but I know I don't like the idea of finding out and then having no choice but to accept it.

I have been troubled by thoughts like that in the past. I had it the worst around the time I was taking some mdma. That stuff seemed to give me anxiety issues

I don't like the idea of saying goodbye to people I love

I don't think I would feel bad if I would stop existing after death.

That's not sad. You know how creepy it would be if you could remember being all jammed up inside your mom's vagina? Or even worse, your dad's nuts? Ew, man.

i can remember when i was in a bassinette and not understanding what these objects were that were peering over me. and i described the entire thing to my mom, all details i remembers, the hat ( i figured out later of course) and the sky and she told me that i was meeting the neighbors and she had the bassinette outside. (the woman had a hat like the one i described) i also remember a bit of blackness , kind of an existence, but just sort of floating there. i always imagine death is the same as after birth. but then again, ive experienced alot of very strange things during investigations, so i really dont know what happens.

Perhaps this life is one of many lifes, and our previous life does not have anything in common with this life or our afterlife!

Afterlife can be a panic too. Putting up with yourself for all eternity doesn't seem all that great. Non-existence isn't too fun either. Guess you can't win either way.

So if you believe that when you die you simply cease to be, what is it exactly you are afraid of? When you die, there won't be any "you" to feel anything. The frame of reference that created this thread will no longer exist in any sense of the word. So what is the matter?

I've spent countless hours thinking about this shit. I hate it. I hate the idea of not existing anymore, and I know its vain.
I think that humans generally hate that idea, and thats why we created religion, so we could feel better, knowing we were not going to cease to exist after death.
I do not believe in an afterlife. I believe that I will cease to exist when I die. The worst part of that, is not that I won't be able to live on, but that when I'm not existing it won't matter if I lived a good life, or a bad one.
This seems really depressing, but it won't matter if I died in the street after a 5 year heroin binge, or lived to have a "perfect" life.
    Damn... fucking introverts:mad:

It's not just about you, though. It matters to the people around you, close to you, those you affected positively or negatively.. your legacy bro.

True, I know your right. I'm speaking just from a personal point of view.
Also, what will matter after all my loved ones and aquaintances are gone too?
Its like that Blues Traveler song, "it won't mean a thing in 100 years"
But I'm not trying to depress anyone so I'll let it be...

I did not read this whole thread. but here is my opinion.

first off, "black endless void?" why don't you imagine it as an infinite white light of pure love instead? certainly, if it is comfort you are after, that would do it.

now, there is no reason to be afraid of death. this is possibly the most irrational fear one can have, if you think about it. one of the premises of life is death. you will die. of this there is absolutely no doubt. so why spend your precious time in this life worrying about something that is completely out of your control? (everything is, but death is the one thing you can do absolutely nothing about)

I advise you to head over to the philosophy & religion forum, and read some of the books those guys recommend.

There is one way to take control of death, but I'm not in favor of that option.
