It's sad, I thought we were actually starting to get to the point where people can start taking responsibility for their own situations and lifestyles. This thread just took that idea about 10 huge steps backwards.

 

Now a days it doesn't matter. The cops will beat anyone up if they know they can get away with it. I would say they're no more likely to beat up a black bum than they are a white bum. I have seen plenty of police brutality against BOTH races.

Dude, cops are completely corrupted anyway. If they see you as a piece of shit in their mind (by race, age, choice of dress, etc.), they're going to treat you as such.

 

Is Racism such a severe factor that its victims would consider moving away to a different, better country?

 

It appears the same in the abstract. But the difference between being treated like shit and ABNER LOUIMA is very real when you actually experience it.

 

I've yet to know a country free of racism actually.

 

Really though if your biggest hang up in life is not getting recognition? Then shut the fuck up. (Not you speficially, but in general)

When you leave for the day, with your college education, your achievements, and your fat ass fucking paycheck to a nice home with a big tv and plenty of entertainment, a well mannered and caring family, with a hot, delicious meal on the table...... you shouldn't be worried about who admits you are the best and who says the white guy, who isn't half as talented, is the best.

To say that somebody who worked hard and prospered is under as much stress as somebody like myself who is struggling to provide for his family day in and day out, just becuase they're black, makes me feel that those people are just greedy and unrelenting. You can't have it all. They got their piece and should be happy about it while the rest of us scrounge for scraps.

 

okay, my brothers were educated in long beach. they have the socio econimc background as a good number of young black men who are out trying to get mortgages and loans. LOADS of white people who can't get a loan or housing are discriminated against for being white trash with a poor educational and economic history. but when it happens to them, coming from teh same background, it's not because they're white, it's because they're losers. but their school friends, who suffered EXACTLY the same poor white trash background as my brothers, can say they didn't get a loan because they were black.

money is money. if there's no money going around in your neighborhood, you're going to suffer. white, black, native, you will in fact suffer. you think i had any special options when i wanted my school paid for? you think my schools had music programs and special resources to help me fill out my college applications? fuck no. but my parents couldn't afford to do it.

but that doesn't matter so much because i just wanted a middle class family. thankfully i found a man who was psychotic about getting past his tent dwelling, teenaged mother, homeless family roots. high school dropout (because he had to get a job), drug addict, abused child. he fucking made it. and he didn't make it because he was white. he made it because he never expected anyone to make it for him. my siblings all had to join the military to get ANY education. as did 2/3 of the people i know.

but the seething question i've had all my life is: how do black people take care of their hair? i had all these friends who wouldn't let their hair get wet, and the one time i asked i lost a friend. dave has to shave his head because he's got really nappy hair (which makes people assume he's a nazi). i'm DYING of curiosity over here. aside from sitting with brandy when she was getting her cornrows (it was 1980) i haven't the vaguest notion.

 

i think those women are losing their babies because they think they have something to prove. i didn't put that on them. the need to chill out, forget that the entire reputation of the black race depends on them being successful. chill out, lay down, and be a mom instead.

NOW, to the more important question of hair: uh, it really depends on whether you're a girl or not. Black girls tend to do too much to their hair, unfortunately.

Racism can be argued from any direction. Period. It's that simple. All sides suffer from racism. Doesn't mean all people do. All sides are guilty of racism. Doesn't mean all people are.

The common denomenator is the division and labeling by skin color, religion, etc.

As long as somebody still claims to be black somebody else will claim to be against blacks. Same thing goes for white, mexican, russian, chinese, what the fuck ever.

Racism is ended by not saying things like, "This black guy I used to know", or "Yeah, my grandmas second husband was from mexico so that's why some of my cousins look latin" etc etc. Even the simple things with no harm intended keep us divided.

 

I have not been physically abused by a cop, but I have been verbally and emotionally abused by two and I can tell you, I don't have physical wounds to show for it, but my world has been forever changed by that day. Luckily, the cops around here aren't really known too much for physically hurting people. But there's nothing like having someone who doesn't know you at all tell you to your face that you're nothing but worthless scum. I don't know what it's like to have someone treat me as such out of racism, but certainly prejudice, and it sucks ass.

I'll just reiterate my final point: White people DO face injustice, hardship, prejudice based on economic background, etc.

But they face less systemically than black people in the same economic brackets.
