Something I wanted to add here. All but the U.K., Norway and Luxembourg place in the Top 40 in Suicide Rates. Jaimaica has the lowest recorded suicide rate at #91
well i think the advantage canada has for americans is not having to completely learn a completely new and unfamiliar language, and at the same time, being the only place of which that can be said, that we can also walk or hitch hike to. and as rotten as i am with languages, and having been born, grown up, and lived all my life in america, i'm pretty much limited to canada, australia, new zealand, and great britain. new zealand looks pretty good to me, except it needs more trains, a lot more trains. and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any 'english' speaking country where the dominant religeon ISN'T christianity. i wish there were. i know many non-natively english speaking contries make a lot of concessions to english speakers, at least in the larger cities, but i'm no way a city person by nature or inclination. i suppose if another language were all arround me all the time i'd pick up on it over a period of time. narrow gauge trains, lots of them, enough to not need cars at all, non-western non-monotheist culture, lots of mountains and forests, temperate to frigid climate, nothing remotely tropical at all, and where i'd be welcomed and accepted, with all my bizaarly counter culture honesty, far as i can tell, there just isn't any such a place. so i guess i'll just stay more or less where i are, untill i either die or get hauled away to do so, which i hope the u.s. doesn't come to that, but i'm sure not seeing any guarantees that it won't. =^^= .../\... =^^= .../\...
Clearly Australia is the best place to live. its got the greatest sport on the planet. AFL. and we are the best at cricket and have the best beer.
Spain is pretty bad, teenage prostitution is rampant and HDI isn't all that good. Well it is official, Canada has won this poll. With 4 votes to go till 100 people, Australia could still beat out the U.K. for 2nd spot.
Okay well after 101 votes, the extra 1 doesn't matter, Canada wins. 2nd is U.K. and then Australia Switzerland is a distant 4th. Now I'm really sorry for Austria.
Canada's to cold Ill wait till the AXIS shifts.. before spending a winter there.../but hell Im only 92.3 miles from the border of Canada so its just as cold...
Canada. pretty much all the canadians I've met have been cool as shit. the other option would've been Australia, but I've lived there for a year and while it is a sweet place to live, there's a little too much stuff I didn't like so much.
It isn't free. The tax there is higher and medicine is not free, of course. Nothing is free when it comes from the government. I lived in Canada for 4 years..went to uni there. I'd live in Norway. It's the richest country, beautiful landscape and women everywhere, good weather...and my family is from there. With a little work, I can get my Norwegian citizenship.
If you put it that way, no, healthcare isn't "free," but you can't expect to have universal medicare and not contribute financially to such essential social programs. Shouldn't we all contribute to the health of the people as opposed to not pay any taxes? Taxes are proportionate to income. If someone makes a million dollars a year, they pay more taxes than someone who makes next to nothing. Both people are equal as human beings, and therefore both get the same essential services. That's basic human rights. If you have cancer, you pay the same taxes as someone who just stubs their toe. The cancer patient's treatment is going to cost a great deal more than the other guy's bandage or whatever they get, but both people have the same right to be healthy, therefore both people pay the same amount for it, but through taxes. I don't see any valid argument against that. It's true that we have to pay for prescriptions, but if you genuinely cannot afford it (e.g. you're on welfare or disability) then you are exempt from that payment. Yes, I'm pretty much a socialist, but this is ethics, not politics. Anyway, that's the truth about medicare here. As for a country I want to live in...I would have to say the UK. I plan to move there eventually...
the U.K. all the way! i love the british something about them is so refreshing! oh little boy you know i could love you, but first i must make my get away!
I like living in the U. K. – though I have Nordic ancestry, I’d probably stay here (amidst the mystique and mystery of the ancient legends and myth of Arthur, Stonehenge, Anglesey, Druids, and calling of my past) (?!) Diverse cultures reside within a society that shows a great deal of tolerance. Good Health care and Education services (despite the lack of sufficient funding) Right to protest and the opportunity to lead a quite a relaxed lifestyle – oh, and we had ‘The Beatles’! The weather can at times be a bit wet; though the freshness that the rain brings provides Green fields and pastures aplenty. I haven’t been to other Continents but, Australia / New Zealand seem like interesting places (?) < Peace + Love ~ Save the Planet >
