I don't wear my hair for any significant purpose -

But I do realize it is a lifestyle thing - it is a physical sign of someone's way of life, much like my clothing relates to my own lifestyle. I don't say I wear my clothes this way because I wish the world would come together peacefully...no...

I said that there are many cultures that wear dreadlocks (maybe not in THIS thread...I'm getting confused) but no doubt those dreads are a sign of his lifestyle, I doubt he puts a significance on them beyond his own way of life...

And he could be Rasta...tell me if otherwise

but why would you object to some one else having them for a reason? Just cause you don't have one, that doesn't make it wrong.

    edit: ..or lame.

It sounds like it's only objectionable for a white person to have a reason to have dreads...

Eh...I see the point and I can see how people may deem a reason to have dreads...this is me being annoyed at listening to that.

Today is my day to be irrational and a complete dick...so...sorry. But I just hate hearing about how cool a person is because they have dreads - thbbbpptt

Because you don't really exist, that is up for me to decide. The outcome has no effect on my life or your fictional, fairytale land.

    :D

I'm not saying people with dreads can't be cool, but I feel there are a majority of people that do it trying to be...something - that they really aren't. I don't know how to express my frustration at this, as it is very stupid altogether and I don't give enough of a shit, I'm sure you peeps are rad or something.

so should I as a white woman be offended when I see black chicks with extensions or straightened hair..cause I totally see that as them trying to be "white"????

so anyway my reason for dreading

BECAUSE I FUCKING WANTED THEM!!!! so now!!!!! Im 35 ,Im beyond wanting to be cool or posing. I do what I want..period. Fairly simple. And when I am in town and these rasta types are shooting me dirty looks, I shoot them right back. I dont give a ratts ass what they think....and some stupid ass white kid telling me to cut my hair on a blog...he too can kiss my big white ghetto ass cause I have one of them too!!!!

I have a feeling i am gonna get flamed for this but keep in mind this is my opinion not a personal attack. I kinda agree with parts of the article actually. Ninety percent of the white folks have seen with dreads should cut em, period. Because such a hair style either matches your looks or it doesn't. It compliments or detracts. If you look good people notice, if you don't they wont. Has little to do with close mindedness, other then the type of close mindedness often found in the workplace that states "Dreadlocks are unprofessional because only hippie's and ragamuffins wear them". Again though, this goes back to perception.

I would far sooner expect to see a black brotha or sista with dreads then a white one. While Jonathan Davis (From Korn) doesn't look bad with dreads, compare that to Lenny Kravitz or Whoopy Goldberg with dreads. See the difference? They just seem to compliment most colored folks better then they do most white people, but it doesn't mean some can't pull it off. (Some of the girls in this forum look so fine with locks) On the flipside white folks just "own" the idea of blond/colored hair cause it really compliments them well.
Granted though, it isn't the first case of assimilation by white people as a trend. Look at Elvis Presley and rock n roll. Taking something that started in black barrel houses and blues joints and wanting to make it his.. Ultimately though it is your life, and you have the right to live it how you want. However, though you can change the way your hair looks you can not change the way people look at your hair.

you wont get flamed, or at least you shouldnt for your opinion, its like getting turned on my dreads or whatever, its what does it for you and obviously white-boy dreads do not, for me i love dreads on white people especially well cared for locks on an attrictive white girl, its the sex

what a tool. "white people flaunting their white privledge!" is this asshole actually assuming that all white people are privledged and all black people are underprivleged? lets take him to a ghetto where both blacks and whites are equilized by poverty

but back on topic... the dread thing. wow. as a person who supposedly wanted dreads himself, im surprised that he cant see the beautifully primitive nature of dreads rather than the cultural aspects
