hate to burst the bubble, but ive never heard of travelin cats to have a happy ending. cats are very territorial. when you take them out of thier territory, they go off exploring and stake out a new one. they seldom return to the car. if they do, then they wont the next time. eventually you will be forced to leave without your cat, or will piss off your humans. dogs are better because they find thier people, cats find thier place. even though your cat is 'different' and loves you, it is not going to have a happy ending. its best to leave it at home, and bring a picture. when you travel you want to travel light, and with nothing that you really need to have the rest of your life, cus stuff always comes up, and its best not to have added burdens. not to mention the obvious animal cruelty adn neglect issues. not tryin to be mean, but i know of several people this stuff has happened to. "my cat was a great travelin partner, till he jumped out of the car on the freeway" " my cat would always stick by the car, untill that one time . . ."
yeah, I guess. the only thing is is that I don't have any one to take care of him at home. I don't want to give him up to the humane society because he's almost 2 and fully grown and I don't want them to put him to sleep during the summer. I didn't figure it would be abuse because he walks well on a leash and the rest of the time he eats and sleeps. People do the same to dogs, why is it different? Any way, you're probably right. Got any suggestions on what to do with my baby until I get back?
Depending on where you are at - the Humane Society may not put your cat to sleep. The Humane Societies here around me in Vermont will not put an animal to sleep unless it is very sick or a danger to other animals or people. I adopted my cat from there and they made me sign a contract stating that should I ever wish to part with my feline friend, that I must return her to them so that they can find a suitable home for her. That being said - cats on the road is a bad idea. They're home bodies
my mom lives in KY, I live in NY, my dad is in Michigan right now, and they're in the middle of divorce so she doesn't know where she wants to live now, and I hardly talk to my dad. The humane society will only keep a cat 2 weeks or it will be put to sleep here. I don't really want to take him, but I have no where else to put him for the summer. Maybe I'll figure something out.
ooooooo i love kentucky. if i were the cat thats where id want to be. 'eight more miles to louisville, the hometown of my heart'
You don't have any friends that would be willing to cat sit or anything? Maybe your cat would like to be a farm cat., farm cats don't have it so bad. If he walks well on a leash and is good in the car, you might be able to do it. I know a girl that lives in a van with her kitty. I got a kitten on a whim last summer cause he was cute and free and had his shots. I was gonna take him hitch-hiking but I thought better of it. I left him with ma. Now she loves him so much she won't give him back. He seems happy tho. Good luck.
