and besides that IMO fully 50% of the threads here should be moved to mental health if the forum guidelines were adhered to.

if the stoners lounge is fuel for the anti drug campaign random thoughts is fuel for those that believe selective abortions are necessary to keep the gene pool from being corrupted any more than it already is as proven by 90% of the threads in this forum...

what fuckin hog wash...

 

on a side note, at least the marijuana forums and the stoners lounge dont have a clique and noone bends the rules to accommodate the clique..

hell they dont even have a active moderator to pick and choose how the rules are enforced..

so all in all id say its not bias to the regulars and the people that frequent there as well as the subject matter are much more to my liking than random thoughts.

yes i go to the marijuana forums as well as many of the other drug forums...

The real question is: if you're not that smart to begin with, is it really such a tragedy if you ruin your brain?

 

what makes you think marijuana ruins your brain?
its obviously not a requirement for lack of intelligence as many that frequent this forum are non smokers, and just look at the threads...

I was expressing an opinion of some of the posts there, not all. If you're so put out about RT why the hell are you posting here anyway? You spare no effort to express your loathing for this forum, and apparently me in particular. If you feel so strongly about how poorly RT is being run then perhaps you can volunteer to Skip your willingness to clean it up.

Or you can keep whining about how things aren't being run as you see fit. How's that working out for you? It's intended to help deal with problems in this forum-- how? You thinking that posting the selected troll post to "put me in my place" is going to be constructive and win you respect? Maybe it will... perhaps you can tap into a vein of repressed antipathy toward the RT mods and from the resulting revolution will emerge a new Random Thoughts forum with the always articulate and thought-provoking discussion such as exists in the MJ forums.

If you have specific concerns and take them to PM I can deal with them without feeling that the actions of moderators are being subject to the spotlight of open discussion which makes the job far more difficult. But I digress... the snipes directed at me are not intended to be constructive are they? I think they fall under another violation of guidelines and since you seem so quick to point out my violations please allow me to show you one of yours.

Except in cases of trollish behavior and where users make it their point to be asses I try to be somewhat hands-off as far as moderating discussion here as undue interference will have a damping effect. Yes, some rule bending is tolerated and until it gets out of hand I'm reluctant to act like the boss as being an asshole with authority would earn me no end of trouble. With about every degree of rule bending taking place where exactly do we draw the line and unilaterally enforce without dealing with the angry chorus of "unfair"? You think it's easy? Have Skip make you the moderator here and the rest of us can step back and admire the artistry of your work. Until such a time I request you take specific concerns private.

You overestimate the power of your words have on my sense of well being but I appreciate the thought nonetheless. I was expressing an opinion, nothing more... and I'm sure you've been doing the same. You can throw words out there with one intent but you cannot control how another mind digests them.

As for this forum... there is admittedly a loose rein kept here as not too constrict discussion and I'll be the first to admit that collectively we err on the side of permissiveness. You've never been one to mince words and from time to time that bluntness itself will become a point of contention; however, I think it's the easier way to deal with people in the long run. Too bad the skill doesn't come so easily to me.

Please don't take my above post as disrespect for you... you are a shining example of self discipline and recognizing where to draw the line by quitting drinking. As someone whose life has been heavily touched by alcoholism, I have particular respect for that. I think this characterizes how I see much of what goes on in the MJ forums... that the concept of substance moderation is absent... and that there can be no possible drawback to using what is a relatively harmless substance. Having been a daily user myself I can attest to the fact that there is a line of excess to be crossed- much like anything else... alcohol, food, sugar...

Someone who opposes legalization can look through many of the threads there and draw a half-reasoned conclusion that all pot smokers are idiots. It doesn't require thorough research to write policy in this day and age.. just enough rhetoric to half-awaken the few who do vote to convince themselves that they support a particular course of action... look at how the U.S. got itself into Iraq.

One of the differences I see between the two forums is how disagreements unfold--- here, if we cannot come to terms on an issue at least we can peaceably agree to disagree and work to have another party understand where we're coming from. In the MJ forums it often becomes a flame war where cheap insults are exchanged. This doesn't reflect the effects of the substance as much as it is a product of the median ages of the participants.. When I was 14 or 15 I was pure idiot and some may feel that the effects haven't entirely worn off but at that age it was to be expected.

Mind you, I don't think all people that age are idiots... but the pickings are mighty slim. At 14, I was sure I knew everything. Now, thirty years hence, I'm more sure of the vast field of facts that I do not know. Hell, there are things about me I'm STILL learning! Sometimes bluntness of word can have unintended consequences not only for the two sides of an argument but also for the countless others who read along silently.

I have faith that those who frequent this forum can sufficiently self moderate to keep the forum active without endangering its existence.

I suspected as much and this had alot to do with the tone of my previous response.

 

now ill give ya that,, the kids are great for a laugh over there.. definitely read some shit an go WTF? but hey as you said,,some are 14 an 15 what do ya expect.. still, a lot of them have good heads on there shoulders..

like i said,, just havin a lil fun,, nothing more..

I don't go there often, but I've been a few times--usually when I'm in the habit of checking the "Active Threads". I try to avoid the active threads though now because I was disturbed by some of the topics that would come up in the sex forums. haha

 

Ive started checking the active threads too, I know what you mean lace and feet

 

yeah I used to do that too but I have stopped not because of the disturbing sex threads, but because of the childish marijuana threads (see I could not help it.. one more time..)

 

how interesting that is the exact same reason i quit frequenting random thoughts,(minus the marijuana part),that and all the people posting pity me threads pertaining to there mental instabilities and there inabilities to cope with them in there day to day lives..

I bounce around to all the forums on here... its amazing how the communities are almost entirely seperate.

 

You do have a good point.

I've been reading and posting there a bit more (mostly because of some notions some old asshole planted in my head ) and must concede that there are a decent number of good members there who contribute quite a bit of substance... and the tendency of threads to get dragged WAY off topic is less.

Being not a daily smoker, there's little I can actually offer the community but at least I can give them a benefit of the doubt before posting disparaging comments about those forums as a whole. The truth often is a very uncomfortable place.

 

I stick to the young hippies forum. It's like random thoughts with the hottest of jail bait.
