jeez, if that's all the garbage you heard, you need to get your head out of the mainstream's ass. everyone knows mainstream shit is the watered-down version of the good shit, nirvana included.

I know I wasnt Listening to Garth Or Jacko at the time Nirvana "HIT". I was much more into SkinnyPuppy and Siouxsie and JanesAddiction and Alien Sex Fiend and Ministry and Red temple Spirits and Legendary Pink Dots and The Jesus and Mary Chain and just starting a love for the Grateful Dead. Nirvana were not important to me.

They sucked? Right, that's why they were the most successful and, by many, the most respected band of the early 90s alt. movement. That's why they lasted 12 years. That's why Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness went platinum eight times, and is the best-selling double-CD album ever. To say Nirvana is the best band in the early 90s alt. movement is to be a fool. Sure, they were huge. But as far as musicianship (not to mention longevity and success) goes, Jane's Addiction, Smashing Pumpkins, R.E.M., Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and most others leave Nirvana in the dust. Listen to Siamese Dream, and tell me they suck. Until then, get your head out of your ass.

The Smashing Pumpkins are so so so far above Nirvana. They are so much more talented and the music is just much better.

And if you want proof that Smashing Pumpkins are better musicians than Nirvana, listen to their live stuff. Smashing Pumpkins in concert are much more complex, creative, and constant than Nirvana ever was.

I should have figured this would happen trying to have a civil conversation with hippies.

Anyways this thread is spose to be who killed grunge not whose better Pumpkins or Nirvana.

There constant and creative.... Hmmm... sounds contradictive to me? More complex? Ever listen to Outcesticide II or Bleach?

Courtney didn't kill grunge, unless your assuming she killed Kurt which she didn't and then you have to be assume Kurt is grunge. I know I'm guilty but I'm all the fun in this thread.

some of the foo fighter's songs i love so much, mainly because they take me to that happy place i experienced after kurt cobain died. it was the beginning of the end of depression-rock's grip of the mainstream. i absolutely adore everlong. i think it's one of the prettiest and sweetest songs i've ever heard.

though i have to say that my main passion for that period was faith no more. such an amazing live act, too. mike patten can sing like no other. i finally turned my husband on to how great and diverse their music was, and now he's a huge fan as well. i really adored hum and helmet, too.
