The answer to that would be no. Despite locals and other charity trying to save this treasured pier, the council have become convienently death to the people and now the pier is unsavable.

    I meant deaf:D

It is true that the pier was not given priority. Instead the council blocking out local concern for immediate restoration, the pier sadly fell victim to the elements of the sea. Seems as though Brighton and hove council don't give in to pier pressure.

It was burnt down by the people who own the other one sadly. I quite like it though. My mate's flat looks out onto it and it's great to have a nice spliff on the beach next to the broken pier and watch the sun set. It sums up Brighton in a way the wreck but fuck, I'd rather look at that wreck than some horrible glass and metal bullshit redevelopment. I like it as it is :)

Oh yeah remember the pier was on fire again. Sadly Brighton council didn't give two hoots and secretly they were relieved it had gone. After the fire naturally went out, the pier was left to crumble into the ocean. Says a lot about Brighton and Hove council. I think that maybe they could put a placard up stating that once here was a second pier or something. I think it was West pier.

Yeah, it looks beautiful its own way, a rusting wreck of former glory slowly dissolving into the sea.

Looked at Brighton guide book in Waterstones yesterday. Apperently it would cost nearly 30 million pounds just to bring it to a stable state. i guess I don't blame Brighton council for letting it disintergrate into an undignified state.

I've lived in Brighton for the past 9 years

    - "I'm not from London!" [IMG]

(well actually I am, I grew up in Ealing)

I live near Queen's Park and often have a coffee there, or go down to the seafront. I like walking on the South Downs as well. I worked in IT support for a few years, but now I'm trying to get into conservation work. I would like to become a countryside ranger, if only for the title :)

I go to the Dumb Waiter sometimes as well. Tend to drink in the Hanover area. I find Brighton a lot more relaxed than London, and it has a good mix of cultures and subcultures. I don't go clubbing much these days, but I like the Enigma. Went to the Funky Fish on Friday and that was good. I also frequent the Cowley Club from time to time, a kind of anarchist hangout, though I'm really a liberal rather than an anarchist.

Oh, and btw it's my birthday today.

    Happy Birthday me! :)

I live in Crawley, which is about 30 minutes away from Brighton. And anyone who's been to Crawley can testify that Brighton is MUCH better! we have colour coded neighbourhoods (seriously) It's the home of the youngest mother in Britain (12 years old!) and plenty of dodgy 60's concrete archetecture (Crawley College anyone?) as well as chavs! The only thing Crawley has going for it is Gatwick Airport

I love travelling down there when i'm in need of a bit of hope from the human race and want culture. If it wasn't for Brighton I would have gone insane.[IMG]

Also I love eating at Wagamama's (sp?) and going round all the Antique shops where i can find my ultra rare DC/PF vintage items

If I had an opportunity to live in Brighton I would take it with both hands. I would swap my flat in London for a council flat in Brighton. I am not fussy, as long as I have a livable size. i think paint and furnishings make a home.

Did i mention it also has the highest teen pregnancy rate in Europe? lol

Crawley does have a few good points, there is a growing music scene and the shops are reasonably good, also there are some great parks like Buchan and Tilgate for when you want to get back to nature

Don't stare the hoodies and you will be fine[IMG] lol
