Given the fact that women can only give birth to a very limited number of children in their lifetime, while men have the biological potential to father many thousands, it makes sense that we have evolved different instinctual mating strategies. In general, men tend to look for one thing in many women while women tend to look for many things in one man.

TO THE OP: You think that because you are an above average looking guy that you should be able to attract an above average looking girl. But it just doesn't work like that. Women care about the whole package (which includes status), and looks are only one part of that package. Guys care about the whole package too, but we put more emphasis on looks. Neither gender is more shallow than the other because of their preferences. It's just how we are.

There are girls that would be interested in dating you (at least once you drop the "all girls suck" attitude). You probably just think you are too good for them. And that's why you are alone. So you basically have a couple of options. You can devote yourself to becoming successful and charming and the type of girls who currently reject you will become attainable. Or you could work on overcoming your own shallow mating instincts and lower your standards a little bit when it comes to looks. Because I guarantee you there are smart, successful, beautiful on the inside women out there who are just as lonely as you are. And they are probably cursing men for being shallow and only caring about looks.

One more thing. It is true that there are gold diggers out there who are cold, calculating, parasites. These women will date a man who has money even if they aren't attracted to him. But the vast majority of women are not like this. Most women do however find success and status to be desirable attributes in a man. These attributes (among others) will make women genuinely attracted to a man. The groupies that have one night stands with butt-ugly musicians don't do so because they hope to benefit financially. They do so because his talent and status make him sexy in spite of his physical appearance. Success and power turn women on for the same unconscious reason that a great set of tits turn men on: they feed the children.

You forgot to mention that for women, sometimes they get with boys/men for purely messed up self-esteem and psychological issues that THEY are dealing with, and them men they hang around (groupies) make them feel better about themselves, and money and status play into that, but it's not the sole reason why they're doing what they're doing in relationships/sex/love.
